Where Art Thou, O Lastings Milledge?

Oh Lastings, my Lastings. Where for art thou my Lastings Milledge?

This was your year. With all the injuries in the outfield this was your chance to make us believe the hype. Now a freak injury has left you trapped in Triple A, and made the Mets resort to using Ricky Ledee (tear).

The other thing is we could have traded you last year when your stock was high. At the very least Barry Zito would have been a Met. Who knows, we could (i.e. should) have packaged you and Aaron Heilman to Florida for a man named, Dontrelle Willis.

Will we ever see the real Lastings Milledge? Will he be the player we thought him to be? Carlos Gomez appears to be our new favorite prospect, but I do wonder if we'll see Lasting Milledge play another game at Shea Stadium.

The crazy thing is if you were a nice kid no one would be talking about trading you.

Get better soon so we can trade you for some pitching.

Sorry, I'm a dork. "Wherefore art thou" means "why are you," not "where are you." In Romeo and Juliet, Juliet says "Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo," but she's asking why Romeo has to be a Montague, has to be this particular man instead of someone else that she would be allowed to love, as a Capulet. Okay, Shakespearean English class over. Now back to your regularly scheduled sports talk.

I'll get you one better, Ju. Elizabethan English is actually "modern" English, not Middle English. Geoffrey Chaucer is a much better example of a Middle English writer.

I think you're dead on. I wish Milledge was in the OF. I think he is a little more ready than Gomez and would have made a nice replacement for Alou. Plus, it would be nice to have him healthy, if Omar wanted to trade him for a SP or a couple of solid RPs.

I will never understand this 'trade milledge' stuff. He's young, extra ordinarily talented, extremely cheap and controlable for years. Aside from that, even if you did want to trade him...why would you do so when his value is at the lowest it's ever been?

Milledge needs to mature mentally. If he ever does so, he is a keeper. The problem is that he hasn't yet. And the question become: will he ever? Thus, the trade talk is often mentioned.

Yeah, the Mets were not impressed with the maturity (or lack thereof) that he displayed in his cup of coffee last season (the high-fiving the audience issue comes to mind).

I saw Milledge play in the Fall League a couple years ago and actually got to talk to him for a minute, thought he was a nice kid. For such a small guy has a great arm, and can go get the ball in CF. Pretty good power for a little guy, especially to the right side.
