Whatever Happened to "Miracle"?

I don't know how many people watched the other night, but AFI revealed the top 100 inspiring movies of all time. The movies covered all genres of movie, including some great sports movies. Movies such as "Hoosiers", "Field of Dreams", and "Rudy", were included on this list, and appropriately so. One movie, however, that is quite inspiring on many levels, which was inexplicably left off the list, was "Miracle".

How do you leave this movie off? This, if you aren't aware, is the story of the 1980 USA Olympic hockey team. Kurt Russell does an unbeliveable job as Herb Brooks, leading America to the improbable gold medal. They had an amazing run, with the mythical win over the Russians with the famous "Do you believe in miracles?" call. This story shows in no uncertain terms that no matter the odds, no matter how the deck is stacked against you, heart and determination can propel you to almost anything.

How could a movie like that not be on the list? My opinion, absolutely crazy.

Amazing how the US cared about international sport when they were beating the Soviets.

When there was a cold war going on and everyone in America hated the USSR, it was pretty easy to get into it then. If America went out and beat the Iraqis in anything right now we'd all be pretty happy too. But Spain? France? England? Who cares.

The movie was bad. To some extent you're correct, it wasn't about just hockey. But I wouldn't call it any more of propaganda than bend it like beckham. Besides, when this movie came out most of us didn't care about the soviets...

The movie was poor because of the acting involved. The story is as good as any sports story ever. As far as the US caring about international sports. Yeah, it was easier when the hated Russians were a force to be reckon with. Now, it gets kinda of boring. there is not country out there that really strikes anger in the US.

The event was inspiring, the movie, though great was not. What was really inexplicably left of was "Remember the Titans" which Denzel should have gotten and Oscar for.

That was the film I was thinking of the other day! He was the guy that lost the use of his legs in a car crash wasn't it? Could you please explain the story, someone, my memory of it is fading...
