What Would You Do? - Lou Piniella Edition

by user Chachi

I've heard it discussed by many "experts" and radio personalities that Sweet Lou will be the top candidate for the Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies managerial positions when (if) they become available this season. So I pose the question to the AGM community, which team would you rather manage this season and start next season with?

Personally, if I'm Lou, I keep taking my paycheck from FOX and wait for Joe Torre to retire next season and get a chance to manage a contender.

Sweet Lou has worked with Pat Gillick in Seattle. Come to Philly, Lou. We will love you...that is, until you blow a playoff game. :)

Philadelphia isnt a mess like chicago...if he wants to win and see people that will respect his attitude, philly is the place. They will spend tons this off-season...this team could contend for a playoff spot next year...then again...they could go the way of charlie manual's current team...

Sweet Lou will not have to worry about Pat the Batless. As soon as Burrell hears that Sweet Lou is coming, he will walk in Gillick's office and request a trade.

Lou belongs in a baseball town, not exactly Tampa Bay. He's a man's man that can throw a base like he's picking off a greedy runner trying to swipe third. He'll kick dirt, and curse, and spit. Chicago or Philly are good towns for that sort of attitude. The Pirates are shopping, Lou would fit well there too. He has played in New York, Kansas City, and Cleveland (one pinch hit in Baltimore doesn't count). He isn't fantastic at developing young talent (let go of ARod), so he needs somewhere a little older. New York would seem a good fit, its about time George Steinbrenner gets the smack down put on him like he's Rob Dibble.

Pirates just hired Jim Tracy. I don't see them firing him after only 1 season.

I think he developed it fine. Seattle mgmt couldn't keep it, or keep in line with what Texas was offering. Not like any other team's mgmt could either...

Already calling the Yankees a contender next year, eh? With an average age of 46, I doubt it.

Personally I'd like to see him in Cleveland.
