What Was Willie Waiting For?

For whatever reason, Willie Randolph seemed reluctant to ever sit down Carlos Delgado this entire season, although he has been slumping all the way throughout these past three months.

Well, today, Randolph finally gave Delgado a breather, and started Shawn Green at first base.

It was about time. When you started dropping him down in the order, and that doesn't work, well, what's the next obvious action to take?

I've been crying for this to happen for the past month or so. Willie must be a frequent reader...

Willie made the right decision. Delgado needs a couple of days to regain his focus. I think he's trying to hard.

I gotta agree with you there. Carlos Delgado IS being paid a lot, but I think that he just needs to regain his confidence and be taken out of a few pressure points in games, so to speak. He needs to take some time off, relax, and just take his mind of the game for a couple of games. It works most of the time. For example: Brad Lidge. He had an ERA of about 7.60 or so (I think) when he was a closer and blew 2 saves. Now, as a set up man, he's doing better than ever. Maybe Carlos Delgado needs to be 6th in the lineup in order to hit better. It might work to the team's advantage. Just a thought, though.

Yeah, right. Try and convince ownership a guy making 15 mil should be on the bench. Good one!

This is a big part of it...he's making a ton of cash to not be playing. Secondly, you know what kind of player he really is...sometimes showing confidence in a guy will get him out of a funk...Thirdly, the mets are 6th in the NL in scoring and 2nd in the NL in giving up runs...so they don't desperately need support from delgado, not saying it won't help, but they can do it w/o him...

that is to say, they've given up the 2nd fewest...coindently, i argued with some mets fans about the phils vs mets in offense back in May, and the mets led the phils by a few runs overall...now the phils lead the mets by about 30 or so...I still think the phils offense is superior...but the mets can be a middling offense right now and still win at a .666 clip...
