What Walker learned from Week 5 in the NFL

Another week in the NFL is over, and with one quarter of the season completed we know some simple facts about who is a contender in the NFL. The Patriots are the real deal, the Cowboys struggle but win, The Steelers are very good, and don’t forget about the defending champion Colts.

The New England Patriots are firing on every cylinder. It is difficult to look back and find a team that dominates in all aspects of the game in the same manor the Patriots do. Tom Brady is on pace to break Peyton Manning’s record for most touchdowns thrown in one season. Brady is proving that with talented receivers he is one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in the league. The Patriots offense is capable of scoring thirty points a game, and their defense can stifle any offensive scheme. The Patriots look poised to make a run to the Super Bowl. Next Sunday’s game will be the first time the Patriots face a team with a winning record. Although the Dallas Cowboys struggled on Monday against Buffalo, they are a talented team, and they will put the Pat’s defense to the test.

Monday night, the Dallas Cowboys struggled against the Buffalo Bills. Tony Romo played the worse game of his career. Despite his poor performance the Dallas defense kept the rest of the team in the game, and insured the Cowboys a victory to go 5-0 on the season. Looking around the NFC, Dallas is still the team to beat. Green Bay was exposed as frauds by the Bears. Frankly there is not another team in the NFC that can score enough points to keep pace with the Dallas offense. Monday’s game proved that Dallas always has a defense that is capable of shutting down opposing teams. All great teams experience a test over the course of the season. If the Cowboys want to be successful, they better hope Monday’s game was a test and not the norm.

The Pittsburgh Steelers replayed Super Bowl XL last Sunday, and they came up with the same results. Pittsburgh dominated the Seattle Seahawks in route to a 21-0 victory. Mike Tomlin picked up exactly where Bill Cowher left off as head coach. Tomlin brought his knowledge of the Cover 2, defense, and is combining it with the Steelers zone blitz. The result is a smothering defense that has the ability to stop any offense in the NFL. Big Ben and Willie Parker are playing some of their best football right now. The Steelers are playing with injuries to key players, but as the injuries heal and the starters step back into the rotation, Pittsburgh will be a dangerous opponent for both Indianapolis and New England.

The Indianapolis Colts may be the best team in the NFL that no one is talking about. All Peyton Manning has done, is guide his team to another 5-0 start. However, this time he is doing it with second string players. Marvin Harrison, and Joseph Addai both missed last weekend’s game due to injury, and both of them are questionable going into next weekend. The injuries did not stop Peyton Manning from marching his team down field at will against a traditionally strong Tampa Bay defense. The regular season has almost become a painful formality for the Colts. Manning and company are so used to working with each other they may playing look easy. Expect the Colts to be undefeated going into a big game with the Patriots at the beginning of November.

Yeah, the Pats and Indy look like the best teams. Let's wait and see if this weekend exposed the Cowboys. They looked pretty tough up until then.

I agree a 100%, even without players like Addai on the field the Colts are breezing through their games. It's really cool to be a Colts fan right now, you practically know they are making it to the playoffs, no contest. Their game against the Patriots will definitely be the best game of regular season. I'm even starting to feel like it's 2005 again :) I even looked for football odds on what were the possibilities of them having and undefeated season and shocker: the patriots actually have better odds. Unbelievable! Can't wait for November and for superbowl time, the Colts WILL WIN AGAIN!
