What New York baseball Is

As I'm sure all of you know the Mets are playing the Dodgers right now and have just played the other former New York National League baseball team in the Giants.

Most of you, well really all of you don't know that Dodgers are my second favorite baseball team, and had they stayed in Brooklyn even with the creation of the Mets, I'd still be a Brooklyn Dodgers fan right now. And the Dodgers were actually my favorite when I was little, I'm a 100% Mets fan, but he Mets symbolize more than just another baseball franchise.

The Mets are the symbol of what New York baseball used to be, why New York is the baseball capital of he world, and why the hall of fame is in New York state. Before the late 70's when the Yankees got Reggie Jackson and they became New York's team (until 1985-1988) National League baseball was New York baseball. The Mets blue and orange is for Dodger Blue and Giants orange. The Mets really have the honor and the burden of representing the times where there were 8 straight subway series World Series. When a New York team was in the World Series 14 out of 16 times between 1947-1963 when the National League was beast. Baseball's Golden Age.

The Mets carry a Burden of a time when New York was baseball, and National League baseball was New York Baseball. And the question you might ask is what does that have to do with now? Well not for nothing but all baseball is a history, breaking a record, winning the World Series for the first time in 86 years, the changing and making of history is the reason true baseball fans watch the game. That's what baseball is!

And though we are the team, for the time, right here, right now. This team right here, right now, when the Yankees are down and falling we're just getting better needs to take back New York. And needs New York baseball not be frowned upon by the rest of the nation because of the spending the Yankees to win, but looked up upon because the Mets are the team and New York once again becomes the place. That's what the Mets need to do right here, right now, we even have the media on our side now. So we are the team for the time. That's what we need to do.

We did our part so far: we beat the Yankees, and if you ask me we're going to have to beat them again in the World Series. But all that that I stated is all the more reason we need to beat the Dodger and the Giants, and remind them what they left back here in New York. A represent New York York National League baseball that left for the money.

That's why I love Mets because they're the replacement of NY National League Baseball. I'm sure a lot of you think I'm getting into it to much but whatever.

So that the real reason, whether they just made it to be a corny phrase or not:

We are the team.
This is the time.
We are the Mets.

I hate the Mets and I don't really get your article but... The Mets are a second-rate team. The Yankees represent New York baseball and for that matter baseball in general. I'm transplanted from Philly to Boston and I hate the Yankees just like everyone else, but it goes without saying that baseball thrives when the Yankees are good. I hate to say it, but you should be trumpeting the Yankees, not the Mets. No one talks about revered baseball legends like the Yankees. Sure you could go with some other teams with great players or moments (sox, cubs, giants, cardinals, etc) or for that matte, every team has some greats, but the Yankees always lead that list, not the Mets. The Yankees have more history. I just don't get your point.

I love the Mets, but that article doesn't make much sense.

Um, last time I checked, the Yankees had 26 World Championships (including four in the last ten years). The Mets have only been in the playoffs six times. I'm pretty sure that those guys in pinstripes are "why New York is the baseball capital of he world", not the Mets. Just saying.

"...why the HOF is in NY state." Perhaps becuase that was where the game was constructed, in 1837?

I don't get this either. The "glory days" are long gone and unfortunately, it was the Yankees who were the symbol of baseball during that time. Nowadays, money is king and typically, the team who spends the most is atop the standings. I'm a huge Mets fan and I cannot stand the Yankees, but it's easy to see that they have far more history then the boys who play out in Queens.

It's great to be enthusiastic about your team, and as a BoSox fan I certainly appreciate any New Yorker who hates the Yankees, but the Yanks really do represent New York, and baseball in general. They're the most recognizable brand name in the world, and they put the product on the field to match. The Mets need to find a management model that works, so they can start to put at least a product on the field that competes with the Yanks.

Guys, first of all nowhere in there did I say I hated the Yankees and the Yanks won 20 of their 26 before the Mets were even a team. And since the Mets have been in existence the socre is 6-2 and until the late 1990's it was 2 to 2. And whether the Yankees are in first place or not right now their on the way down. For those who didn't get the article, you just don't know as much baseball history as you needed to to understand it. If you understood how baseball was before the Yankees took control of the city and when the Dodgers and Giants were in town, you'd get the article.

Sorry It happened in the 50s. No one cares about the whole NY thing. You're just trying to be different. Anyway, I don't really care. I have a sense you were trying to convey something that is difficult for a non new yorker to get. However, while the yankees may look like they are getting old they won't be going down. Free agency occurs every year and each time is a chance for the yankees to reload. As long as steinbrenner is there, they will always been given a shot to win...

Let's all be serious for a minute. The Florida Marlins have more postseason success than the New York Mets.

'Know your history?' C'mon you idiot. Already proven above that you don't know history- why HOF is in NY. As for your 'golden age' 1947-1963, pls note the Yanks were in the WS 13yrs out of 17, winning 10. Brooklyn 5yrs, winning once; NYG one yr, losing once. So when exactly do you think that the Yanks 'took over NY?'
