What's the Best Sport?

17

by user BeerDrinker

Its a simple question, but I think that its an important question.  For my money, I am going to say its baseball.  Baseball seems to parallel life.  From not always winning, to having good days and bad days, to the general slow pace of life.  Baseball is the best sport for me.

Football on the other hand seems like a made-for-tv-movie.  Its too fast, too brutal and artificial with excessive padding.   Nascar seems the same way.  It still baffles me that driving a car is considered a sport.

Hockey is just weird and I can't pronounce the players name and basketball would be one of the best if the players didn't beat up their fans.  I can't say its soccer, well, because I am an American.

Anyways, what do you guys think?

For me, the NFL is second to none in terms of team sports. Individual sports, I would have to say boxing.

I definitely agree with you on the fact the baseball is the "best sport". People are already telling me that basketball wasn't like how it was a decade or two ago (talent wise). Now, it kinda feels like you know what's gonna happen. Back then, you had no idea what happened. Baseball has always been that way. If you watch the Royals play against the Yankees, you don't know if the Royals could pull it off (suprisingly), if the yankees would beat them. In basketball, if you have a good team against a bad team, there's a really good chance that the team that has a better winning percentage (in the situation) will win. For example, Celtics vs. Mavericks. Who would win? Probably the Mavs, right? Same thing goes with hockey, football, and soccer. If you have the talent, there's a good chance that your team will win. When good teams play against each other, that is when things get very interesting. In baseball, if you love it, you would definitely agree with me saying that baseball is the 'best'. The thing that I love about baseball is that it's different. Sure, cricket is somehow related, but it's not even close to what it is to baseball when you're judging what the better sport is. Baseball is America's pasttime, and there's no other sport like it...

My favourite sports are F1 and snooker. F1 requires to work in a team. I think it is a sport because you need to endure forces of 4G going around some corners, you have to be physically fit. Snooker is a relaxing lengthy game too.

What's Snooker? How is F1 different from Nascar?

F1 is like Indy car with 2 drivers per team in each race. It's like Global Team Indy Car racing. Snooker's like pool. Kinda

A lot. F1 is what is known as "open wheel" racing while NASCAR is "stock car". NASCAR is primarily raced on oval tracks (2 events on road courses), while F1 is exclusively on road and street courses, which means that they turn left and right while nearly every NASCAR event is left turn only.

The difference between stock cars and open wheel cars is that they are designed differently. A NASCAR is based off a street car you would see everyday - Ford Fusions, Toyota Camrys, Dodge Chargers, and Chevrolet Monte Carlos. An open wheel car is not based off an existing car, and is designed for maximum performance.

NASCAR is really on a par with the DTM and V8 Supercars in that respect - it's just road legal (technically!) cars. IRL is an open wheel series on a par with Formula Ford or Formula Renault. Open wheel racing is more entertaining in my opinion.

I can't explain the differences, but they're pretty similar alex. Snooker is different, I know that. that's why I added the kinda at the end

Drive fast, turn left, repeat. I'm sure it takes a ton of skill, talent, dedication and teamwork, but it has to be one of the least interesting things to watch in all of sports. Right up there with the Pro Bowl and the WNBA All Star game. Sorry, I know that offends a growing population of people who love to see fast cars turn left, but I just don't get it. for my money it is basketball for the demands of athleticism, skill, reflex, instinct and quick decision making. combine that with the ability of lesser players being able to over come better players with team work and the incredible, music like improvisation. then throw in the pace of the game and the ability of almost anyone to learn to play at a decent level and you're looking at the world's best sport.

F1 is way better than NASCAR. Just because something is European doesn't mean it's not good as a sport. I watch a lot of these races, and it is very interesting to follow. And by the way, this article idea is novel but borderline spastic. Thats like saying whos the coolest person ever. (For the record I run a close second to Manny)

Hockey, the style from the late 80's and early 90's, is the best sport around. This is why I still have hope in the NHL turning things around. Second best sport is football, AMerican football.

I am almost exclusively a baseball fan outside of watching the Saints and LSU who are in my home state. Haven't watched a basketball game of any kind all season since I think having two months of playoffs is an asinine idea cooked up to make more profits for the teams. One of the best selling points for baseball is when late in the game the team losing has the tying or winning run on base and a premier closer comes in it is a question of who will prevail...the hitter or pitcher? Have been following baseball since 1955 and nothing in my book compares to the excitement of a seventh game of a World Series with everything on the line in that one game. Super Bowl comes a close second nothing compares with a hitter hitting a walkoff home run in the seventh game like Bill Mazeroski and Joe Carter have done.

NFL. Hands down - it's totally the best sport on TV.

Baseball's a doping celebrity sham and games are just too expensive to call it "America's Pastime" if you still believe in a middle class. Baseball used to be great.

I would agree with Tyrone about boxing, but I'm going to have to go with MMA because there's just no way to fix those fights. There's so much that needs to be put out there about this sport - the genuine love for the art of it, it's "chess match" nature in terms of strategy, the sheer respect fighters have for their opponents inside of the ring or cage or whatever... Fans can look forward to this sport really taking off in the near future!

Ha ha, baseball a doping sham compared to football. I mean, football players, those guys have 100% natural physiques. Give me a break. Who do you think baseball players learned this stuff from?

The NFL, then NBA, then college basketball and finally MLB. And when I get to watching more Formula 1, I'm sure it'll be one of my favorites. I watched the Grand Prix in Monte Carlo on the Speed Channel. NASCAR dosen't even come close in interest.

i think baseball is a way of living life theres a team a player and manager...but seriouslly a sport is chosen by the person himself..i love baseball but i'm not a heretic fan of any team..i love good baseball..so any sport has its own thing that people love you can't really say which is the best sport...i don't like hockey but that doesn't mean it sucks...you can have a fav. sport but defining the best sport is hard..

TB - If you look at Ricky's entire career (college through the pros), he has never been interested in the spotlight. Yet, because of his awards and talent, that is all that he sees in the US. In Canada, he was drug free and allowed to play the game that he loves in peace. The people of Toronto just let him be who he is, without the added pressure.

For me it is football the NFL to be exact but I love all football (arena is starting to grow on me, I dont know if it is the lack of NFL or what but I like it.)

I like baseball and basketball about equally

4th to me is ufc This is a quickly going high paced sport with amazing athletes. The guys are also usually class acts outside of the ring who get violent reputations for their occupation
