What's in Store for Bonds?

On Friday afternoon, the circus officially began once Barry Bonds entered his plea: Not guilty. This is not surprising for anybody, but that doesn't mean it won't be any less suspenseful.
"Barry Bonds is innocent," said defense attorney Allen Ruby, "He has trust and faith in the justice system. We're confident of a good outcome."
Ruby also alluded to the fact that the indictment has multiple holes. He said he and his colleagues would eventually be able to ask for a dismissal of the charges against Bonds.
Despite the indictment and a federal trial awaiting, it would seem to make sense that most teams would laugh at the idea at signing the media drawing slugger. However, the Oakland Athletics appear to have an interest in Bonds.
"There is no doubt in my mind that Oakland will sign Bonds," one major-league executive said Thursday as the winter meetings wound down. "I'd be shocked if it didn't happen."
Personally, I am shocked that Oakland is considering signing Bonds. Why would any team want to deal with the public relations nightmare that is Barry Bonds right now? No matter what the Athletics, do next season, if Bonds is on the team than he will be the only thing anybody wants to talk about. There is no doubt that Barry can still hit, but I don't think the 27 home runs that he may hit next season will be worth it due to all of the baggage that he brings.
Maybe I am crazy but this doesn't seem like a good fit for Oakland. What do you think?
