West Virginia vs. South Florida Prediction

It was in this matchup last season that the Bulls burst upon the scene with their 24-19 upset of the then-No. 7 ranked Mountaineers in Morgantown.

This time, in what many are calling the biggest game in school history, South Florida will have the advantage of playing at home in Tampa. However, it won’t have the advantage of catching revenge-minded West Virginia off guard and banged up in the rematch.

Last year, the Bulls bottled up the Mountaineer running so well that USF quarterback Matt Grothe outrushed West Virginia star running back Steve Slaton, 47-43. The Mountaineers finished that contest with only 132 yards on the ground, well under the 33 they had been averaging.

West Virginia quarterback Pat White is coming off one best games of his career, accounting for four touchdowns and completing 18-of-20 for 181 passing yards in last Saturday’s 48-7 rout over East Carolina. If he can avoid Bulls superstar defensive end George Selvie (averaging a national-best 2.8 sacks per game), White will win his duel with Grothe and lead the Mountaineers, who won’t score at least 40 points for only the second time in their last 13 games, to a narrow road victory.

My prediction: Take West Virginina (-7) and the over (56)

This will be a close game, but the Mountaineers will edge them with a defensive stand late in the game.

Your prediction is looking like gold, I can't believe I'm witnessing this right now. Mountaineers with four turnovers -- they have forced four as well, but haven't done anything with it -- and down 21-3. Pat White is out!!!!!

This is unbelievable, Slaton with only 50 rushing yards, and WV is down 21-6.

You gotta like South Florida's chances of getting to a BCS game, only the game at Rutgers seems like a game that they could lose. It's pretty incredible that this team is doing this in the state of Florida after being in the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly Division I-A) for only 11 years. They are the second fastest program to reach the top 25 since being moved up. It took them only 121 weeks, behind only Boise State at 117, and we all know what they did.

Actually, they've only had football for 11 years, they joined the FBS in 2001.

So can we have an article now about how West Virginia doesn't deserve all the coverage that they get like some Mountaineer fan wrote about Notre Dame?

They've been a very good team for the last several years. But South Florida is one of the best stories of history, of a team that has been built very quickly, into a powerhouse. At the rate they're going, its no telling how far they can go. Jim Leavitt is clearly a great coach. West Virginia was outcoached and outplayed.

USF looked good in this game, really good, especially in the offensive and defensive lines. They just may be BCS bound, but they don't have a cakewalk to winning the Big East. They have to go to Rutgers in a few weeks, and then UConn. They also host Cincinnati.

Rutgers is still the favorite to win the Big East.

And to some WVU fans who were complaining about not being ranked high enough, enjoy a small late night snack of crow, but the Mountaineers season isn't over. They can still win the conference, they're just gonna need a little help now.

If they can't beat those teams, then you're right, they don't deserve it.

correction. Rutgers is now the favorite to win the Big East. We could be looking at another season where the big east sends some random team (i.e. Pitt) to play some other random team (i.e. Utah) to the slaughterhouse.

This rhe 2nd "program maker" this year. If win the Big East money is gonna roll in. Not just TV money, but more importantly, Alum money. USF has 45,000 undergrads! They have a huge Alum base that WILL start donating big. I went to OU in the late 90's and I saw what happened when Stoops took over and OU stopped losing. Endowments, tenured faculty, new college of business and journalism, etc. TV and merchandise can bring in millions, but Alums can bring in 100s of millions. This will be the best thing that's ever happened to USF academics.

USF looked great like a top 10 maybe even top 5 team tonight i said it last week when they kicked around North Carolina i thot they did look like a top 10 team but i could not see them beating WVU i saw it being a great game and it turned out to be a little bit of a mis match however keep in mind the game was really over when White got injured had he played the game might have been a different story i mean the back u #15 Brown looked completely overwhelmed

Nonetheless great job USF u have now surpassed both Miami and Florida State and are now up there with Florida as one of the top 2 teams in the state of Florida

USF is prob gonna make a bowl game and who knows undefeated season? yes in my mind they look THAT good

While your typos and other assumptions amuse me; top 5 my ass. So you beat the number 5 ranked team, that does not mean that you automatically usurpe that spot. I still want to see them play the rest of the east before I believe they are anything that can beat another major team.

Top 5 my ass too. The top 4 are obvious, and do you honestly think USF deserves to be ranked 5th over Cal, or Texas, or Wisconsin, or OSU?
