Traded to Roughriders from Calgary for Rob Lazeo and a conditional draft pick in June, 2007.

Signed as a free agent with Calgary on May 10, 2006.

College

Attended California University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2001 having never missed a game in his 4 year career…Cates had 5,647 total yards (PSAC record) on 937 carries, 63 rushing touchdowns and 386 total points — all school records…two-time All-Region and All-American…PSAC- West Offensive Player of the Year (2001)…led the PSAC in rushing for 3 seasons…PSAC-West 1st team All-Star selection for 3 years…nominated for Harlon Hill Award for best player in division 2 in his sophomore and senior seasons.
