Were The Mets Drunk?

Losing to the Washington Nationals, 12-4, sucks for the New York Mets. It's stupid, and wrong.

Division leaders don't lose to horrible teams. The worse is the Mets lost four straight. The four straight loses, were against under achieving teams.

Without getting swept by the Philadelphia Phillies, things would have been different. But they did get swept, and that's what makes this lost bad.

The Mets are better then this. It's no time for a slump, because the playoffs are around the turner.

The Mets jump out first. Top of the first, Luis Castillo hit a sacrifice fly. Jose Reyes scored. Carlos Beltran homered, and David Wright scored as well. The Mets finish the inning, 3-0.

Top of fourth, Shawn Green homered to deep center. The score was 4-0.

Bottom of the inning, the Nationals came back. Ron Belliard singled, Ryan Zimmerman and Wily Mo Pena scored. Brian Schneider doubled to right, Belliard and Austin Kearns scored. The score was tied 4-4.

Wily Mo Pena singled in the fifth inning, and Nook Logan scored. The Nationals were up 5-4.

Logan hit a bunt single, Felipe Lopez and Schneider scored. Wily Mo Pena reached on fielder choice, Logan and Zimmerman scored. Bottom of the sixth, the Nationals were up 9-4.

In the seventh, the Nationals put it away. Logan singled to right, and Lopez scored. Ryan Church homered to right, and Logan scored. This finish the game 12-4.

The Mets broke down early in the game, and pitching is the problem. This can't continue, because the Mets won't succeed. The pitching needs to improve, that's a fact.

All these young stars on their team, with Reyes, Wright, and others. That asks the questions, "Were The Mets Drunk?"

"Division leaders don't lose to horrible teams."

You mean "division leaders AREN'T SUPPOSED TO lose to horrible teams."

Just ask the Red Sox. They lose to the Devil Rays, Rangers, Royals, and White Sox half the time, if not more.

For the record, the Nats aren't horrible...i mean, they're in 4th place... perhaps, "division leaders aren't supposed to lose to teams they're supposed to beat"...

I like how "NY's best shortstop" messed up the easy out to first base by bobbling the ball, while NY's REAL best shortstop was busy hitting a three run homer to give the yanks the victory.

I just hope the this loss snaps the Mets pitching out of its current malaise...something has to.

Every Mets pitcher that stepped on the mound allowed at least one run. Lawrence started the game off badly allowing 4 runs in 3 1/3 innings but the five relievers allowed 12 more to score in the last 5 2/3 innings. Not exactly the formula for winning baseball.

Division leaders lose to horrible teams all the time. It's hard to sweep a series.

I remember during the Met's summer slump, they were still all smiles...maybe they should realize they're setting themselves up for the worst

Their not drunk...its bad pitching (mainly bullpen) and lack of focus down the stretch. Early last week all the hype about being 7 up got to this team and started believing it was over. More than anything since early August has been the lack of consistency and just downright suckiness of the bullpen, which I hope Randolph and Mineya look LONG AND HARD at this offseason. Wow, this was a strength of our team last season and this season its been a big weakness. Heilman's days in NY should be over (i think hes still bitter hes not a starter), Mota has been the same since that suspension, SchoenCRAP oops I mean Schowenweis was a terrible signing, Feliciano has been good and bad, Joe Smith its still too early for him and they never were able to get Sanchez back at all this year. Been rough...I mean the past weekend against the Phils were clear examples of the bullpen blowing 2 quality starts (Glavine and Pedro) in back to back days that should have been wins. But with all that being said, we're still in first. And if the starting pitching can keep solid, get El Duque back and stable, and they get back to fundamentals on Defense, the Mets are still the team to beat in the NL. I havent lost faith in them.

Yea, but the Mets need to step up. Losing to the Nats is unacceptable.
