After pitching four strong innings for the Boston Red Sox tonight against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, David Wells had to leave the game. He was hit in the foot with a Travis Lee line drive in the 5th. He walked off the field, and it was later revealed that he had a contusion on his knee. He will be getting additional medical testing, including an MRI, tomorrow to determine his status.
He pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 5 hits, 1 earned run, with no walks and no K's. Boston went on to win the game 8-4; reliver Julian Tavarez became the pitcher of record.
