Weekend Preview

Here is a look at what to watch this weekend:

NFL Preason

Friday August 10

Falcons at Jets

*This is a chance for Head Coach Bobby Petrino to check out Joey Harrington, and the other Falcons QB's, as he starts to look for a QB to replace Michael Vick, who will most likely not play much this year.

Patriots at Bucs

*First game for newcomer Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, and Wes Welker, the Pats new receivers.  The main reason for people to want to watch this game is to see if the Pats spent their money on the right guys for Brady, we probably won't find out the answer until the start of the regular season, though.

Rams at Vikings

*The debut of rookie RB Adrian Peterson for the Minnesota Vikings, that will be the big story of the night.

Bills at Saints

*The saints are trying to improve off their 20-7 loss against the Steelers, although its only the preseason, the Saints still want to make a good impression.

Saturday August 11

Jaguars at Dolphins

*We will get a look at newly acquired QB Trent Green for the Dolphins.  Can he lead the Dolphins to the playoffs this year?  Probably not, but that won't be too shabby this year (probably 7-9 or 8-8)

Cheifs at Browns

*The spotlight for this game will be on Brady Quinn, who recently signed a contract with the Browns.  But you should also watch the Cheifs QB's, Damon Huard, and Brodie Croyle, who are fighting for the starting job, the starter come opening day will most likely be Huard, though.

Packers at Steelers

*We probably won't see much of Favre, and Roethlisberger.  But we should be able to see alot of Charlie Batch, and Aaron Rodgers, whcih should be fun to watch.

Panthers at Giants

*Eli Manning hasn't been to good the past few seasons, will this be his year?  Also, look out for David Carr, who could be the starter this year for Carolina.

Bears at Texans

*Will Matt Schaub be a threat this year, even with the Texans sucky O-line?  Who knows, but we will get a good look at him against the number one defense from last year.

Redskins at Titans

*Is Vince Young as good as people say he is?  We may not get to see him that much, but I would still watch this game anyway to check out Lendale White, and the other Tennessee RB's.

Cardinals at Raiders

*JaMarcus Russell is still unsigned, but we will still get a look at vet Daunte Culpepper, who recently signed with the Raiders.

Sunday August 12

Seahawks at Chargers

*LT V.S. Shaun Alexander, although we will see more of Michael Turner, and Maurice Morris, but it will still be a good game.

MLB

Friday August 10

  • Red Sox at Orioles- Baltimore's ace Erik Bedard is taking on the Red Sox rookie ace Daisuke Matsuzaka, the Red Sox are trying to hlod off the Yankees for the AL East division title, while the O's are just trying to get back to .500.
  • Dodgers at Cardinals- The Cardinals are trying to catch up with the Milwaukee Brewers, and the Dodgers are also third place in their division, and are trying to catch up with the D'Backs (three games behind)
  • Braves at Phillies- The Braves are just three and a half games behind the first-place Mets, and the Phillies just a half game behind the Braves, this game is a fight for second place in the NL East.
  • Pirates at Giants- Pittsburgh acquired pitcher Matt Morris at the trade deadline, and will pitch against Bonds and his Giants tonight.

Saturday August 11

* Red Sox at Orioles- The red Sox have another one of their aces on the mound, Josh Beckett, against the O's young arm in Brain Burres.

  • A's at Tigers- Another fantastic pitching matchup, A's probable 2007 AL Cy Young winner Dan Haren is pithcing up against the Tigers Justin Verlander, this matchup is probably better than Bedard-Matsuzaka.
  • Braves at Phillies- Cormier versus Eaton, that isn't what is gonna make it a good game, is will be a good game again because they are both fighting for second place in their division.
  • Marlins at Mets- Tom Glavine is looking to add onto his 300 career wins, which he reached last Sunday.

Sunday August 12

  • Padres at Reds- Jake Peavy of the Padres, who is NL's probable Cy Young winner this year, is pithcing up against former Red Sox pitcher Bronson Arroyo.
  • Pirates at Giants- Barry Zito will be pitching for the Giants, who is a great left handed pitcher with the best curve ball in MLB, against the Pirates 25-year old pitcher Tom Gorzelanny.
  • Nationals at Diamondbacks- WAS pitcher Mike Bacsik will now attempt to become a great pitcher so that he will be remembered as a great pitcher, instead of "the pitcher who gave up #756."
  • Braves at Phillies- In the final game of the three game series, Philly's 44-year old pitcher will face off with Atlanta's 29-year old pitcher Buddy Carlyle on national TV (ESPN).

My predictions: (MLB only)

August 10:

  • Erik Bedard def. Dice-K in a close pitching duel, 4-2.
  • Dodgers win 8-2
  • This is tough, but I think the Phils are gonna win this because Cole Hammels is pretty hot right now.
  • Pirates vs Giants: The Giants will win, 6-3, and Barry Bonds will go 1-4 with a walk.

August 11:

  • Josh Beckett will hopefuly get his 15th win.
  • I have a feeling that the Tigers' bullpen will lose this game. It'll be a close matchup until the 7th-8th inning.
  • Braves vs. Phils: These aren't the best pitchers in the MLB, but they have the desire to get second place so they have a chance for the playoffs. Phils will win, 9-6.
  • Marlins vs. Mets: Glavine is doing great. In his 300th win he did really good, surrendering 1 runs, correct me if I'm wrong. Mets will win, and Glavine will get his 301st win.

August 12th:

  • SD vs. CIN: Padres will win, 5-1, and Jake Peavy will get another win.
  • Pirates vs. Giants: Pirates win, 7-5. Gorzelanny is a damn good pitcher, and is one of only two good pitchers on the team...
  • WSN vs. ARI: Diamondbacks win, and Bacsik will surrender 2 more home runs.
  • ATL vs. PHI: This will be close, I think, but the Phils will win 6-5.
Those are my predictions for what you wrote, Ben. Good Preview..

Good predictions, but right now Cole Hamels isn't doing so great. In the first inning Hamels gave up five hits for four runs (all earned), with a walk and a home run. In the bottom of the first Jimmy Rollins just hit a single, and now Tadahito Iguchi is now up for the Phils.

Well, the Phillies just tied it up after two singles, a double, sac fly, and a two-run HR by Wes Helms. Hamels is right back in this one as long as he doesn't have another inning like the first one.
