Over the first 2 weeks of the season, we have seen a few interesting things. Who would have known that Rex Grossman & Chad Pennington would be in the top 5 QB listings. For that matter, Randy Moss and LaMont Jordan be total duds. While we’re at it, will the real Shaun Alexander & Larry Johnson please stand up! Can I PLEASE get a re-draft on some of my leagues? lol Despite all that, I seem to be doing pretty well for myself. In the 16 leagues – YES 16 leagues, I’m a combined 20-11-1 (2-0 in 6 leagues).
Injury report
- It appears that Steve Smith did do some practicing today and is expected to play against a bad Tampa Bay defense. Still keep an eye on his progress through out the week before making a final decision on activated him.
- Clinton Portis is still recovering on the shoulder injury. He (Portis) said that he would like to be play against Houston and so far, he’s expecting too.
- Reuben Droughns is questionable due to a shoulder injury.
- Drew Carter is still questionable in week 3 due to a broken finger but he did practice with it taped up.
- T.J. Houshmandzadeh is expected to play in week 3 against Pittsburgh.
Questions
- Will the Jets ever develop a running game? NO! Derrick Blaylock & Kevan Barlow aren’t very good. They MIGHT post ok numbers here and there on a play or two, but don’t expect much out of either.
- Will Randy Moss or LaMont Jordan matter this year? After 2 tough defenses in San Diego and Baltimore, mix that in with no offensive line or QB, I would have to say Moss is a no and Jordan a maybe. However, after the bye week in week 3, they host Cleveland then go to San Francisco so who knows. If neither one does anything against either team, it’s time to cut bait.
- Is Frank Gore the real deal? So far, it appears so. He’s only a #2 RB in most leagues but he’s performing like a #1. On the flip side, his first 2 games were against Arizona & St. Louis both of which are weak defensively. The 49ers don’t face a good defense until week 6 when they play San Diego. Until then, they play the Eagles, KC & Oakland. So it’s very safe to keep Gore in the lineup.
- Will Kevin Jones ever develop in a the solid RB he’s hyped up to be? That’s the question I’ve been asking myself as a Detroit Lions season ticket holder. There have times where he’s ran with dominance but that’s few and far between. So far this year he’s lost 3 fumbles. His previous 2 years, he lost a total of 1 fumble. Right now, he’s way too inconsistent to keep in the lineup every week. In week 3 however, the Lions play Green Bay so it appears safe to play him if you got him.
Play Em
Donovan McNabb – He plays San Fran this week.
Donte Stallworth – See McNabb. Side note: Thank you guys for letting this one slip to the 13th round in my $150 league!!
Clinton Portis – Expected to play and going against a VERY weak Houston team, he should put up solid numbers.
Brett Favre – Always seems to light up the Lions. Psssttt, not hard to do.
John Kitna – Surprise pick here. But when you consider that Green Bay doesn’t have that much of a defense and they’re playing in Detroit, 250yrds 2 TD’s wouldn’t be far fetched.
Jerious Norwood – With Warrick Dunn and Michael Vick getting all the attention in Atlanta, don’t forget about this guy in deeper leagues. 111yrds in 19 attempts (5.8 avg) in 2 games. Going against New Orleans, it would not surprise me 1 bit if he got 75 yrds and a TD.
L.J. Smith – Donavan’s 2nd favorite target. Remember he fills the TE spot very nice and he’s averaging 12.8yrds per touch (13 rec 167yrds) oh yeah, against San Fran helps this one out too.
Marques Colston – Definitely emerging as one of Drew Brees top targets.
Sit Em
Any Tennessee QB.
Any Jets RB.
Jake Plummer – After week 2’s performance, do ya blame me for saying this one?
Chris Simms – If you have this guy, I feel sorry for you. The over/under for the amount of INT’s he’ll throw in week 3 against Carolina is 4.
Chris Henry – With T.J. Whosyourmomma expected to play in week 3, Henry goes back to the bench.
Wait and see approach
Daunte Culpepper – This week he faces Tennessee which could be the thing that gets him back on track. If he does poor here also, drop him like a rock.
Jerricho Cotchery – Week 2’s performance of 6 rec 121 yrds & 1TD looked very good, this week he goes against Buffalo so he might not have that strong of a week. With that being said though, if he’s available on your league and you have room, pick him up. 3 out of the next 5 weeks are against weak teams (Miami, Detroit & Cleveland) but weeks 4 & 5 the Jets play Indi & Jacksonville respectively. Be fore-warned he might not be available come week 6.
Waiver wire
Michael Turner – For being LaDainian Tomlinson’s backup, he’s not doing too shabby – 23 attempts for 175yrs (7.6 avg) & 1 TD. He could be used as a #3 RB when your starter runs into a bye week. Owned in 13% of leagues. Worth grabbing in larger leagues with 3 RB or flex position spots.
Ladell Betts – If you haven’t heard of him by now, you should’ve. Decent backup for those Portis owners.
Benard Berrian – Proven to be a deep threat and one of Grossman’s favorite targets (23yrd avg).
Troy Williamson – 10 rec for 179 yrds (17.9 avg). For those leagues that also allow return yardage, he’s got 173 return yards… not a bad player for larger leagues or have a flex position.
