Some links and other quick notes for you today:
- In Monday's blog, I referenced Cincinnati's mayor throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Reds game, joking that he was a little more low-profile than President Bush, who did so last year on Opening Day. Well the mayor came through for me in a big way by throwing the worst pitch I've ever seen. Check out former Red Eric Davis' reaction. Classic.
- Another NCAA Tournament has come and gone, and it was a dandy. I just wanted to take a minute to say that I picked one of my strongest brackets ever ... and didn't win a dime from it. I correctly selected 13 of the 16 Sweet Sixteen, 6 of the 8 Elite Eight, 3 of the 4 Final Four teams, the final two and the champion. Yet none of this was good enough to crack the top three in the lone pool I entered. In that pool, twelve of about 60 entrants correctly identified all 4 Final Four teams. Either I joined a pool with some ridiculous college hoops gurus, or favorites dominated this year's field making more brackets look good than in most years.
- I started writing a column about the Florida Gators, but it was one of those articles where I wrote five or six paragraphs and still didn't know exactly where I was going or what I was trying to say. I basically wanted to write about this team, specifically Noah, Horford and Brewer, and how rare and selfless it is that they'd come back to school for one more year to win a second title. But I felt like that angle is pretty much played out by now. No doubt this year's Gators are the essence of what it means to be a team, and I have no problem saying I was rooting for them to repeat ... even though Joakim Noah is a complete douchebag.
- I can safely say that this is the video that made me say, "Thank God for YouTube," for the first time. I've actually said that many times in my life since. I proceeded to watch this video about 42 consecutive times, laughing each and every time. Leroy Jenkins
- Finally, an oldie but a goodie. I don't know about you, but I never get tired of watching this. I especially enjoy the part where he inquires about practice.
