England vs. Russia, New Wembley - London
The Russians go to England in what is easily the match of the day for Group E. I originally thought that this wasn't a must-win for the English, but now I'm beginning to have second thoughts. Neither Russia nor Croatia have a very difficult schedule ahead of them, though the Croatians have to go to London on the last day of qualifying. A win here and England can go for the draw when they travel to Russia on October 17th.
The Russians know that a loss here will be devastating and a draw won't do much better. They still have the Three Lions coming to their house and a trip to Israel in the works. Putting ten men behind the ball and going for the draw mgiht be what Gus Hiddink is thinking, but that would be playing Russian Roulette with their qualifying hopes.
No matter what Russia does, the dynamic tandem of Barry and Gerrard should be back, with Cole on the left and Owen and Crouch up front. If their defense doesn't get complacent, I can see them taking this one, 2-0.
Andorra vs. Croatia, Estadi Comunal - Andorra La Vella
It would be great if Andorra pulled the upset and got a draw here, but it would also be great if I defecated gold nuggets. Croatia, 3-0
FYR Macedonia vs. Estonia, Gradski - Skopje
I really have nothing to say. Macedonia, 3-2.
