We want Beckham
Well now that Beckham's debut in Los Angeles is over, he has to deal with reality that every road game will serve as another "debut." The Los Angeles Galaxy are scheduled to play FC Dallas in tonight's SuperLiga matchup at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas. But North Dallas' dream of hosting the worldwide super-star has turned ugly. [1]
> Beckham not only won't be playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy in tonight's SuperLiga match against FC Dallas – he won't even be in attendance. The Galaxy arrived in town Monday night without Beckham, who didn't make the trip because of an injured left ankle. > > Anticipation for Beckham's appearance had spurred ticket sales for the game. Standing-room only tickets were all that remained for the match at Pizza Hut Park, which seats 20,500.
I bet those 20,500 people feel about as empty as the scumbags on "To Catch a Predator" just as Chris Hanson walks around that corner. Now they have to watch soccer......for no reason. Pizza Hut park hasn't housed 20,000 people since Pat Green and Kenny Chesney had a summer concert there two years ago. Awful concert. Just awful.
Evidently, FC Dallas GM Michael Hitchock and the rest of the FC Dallas organization really marketed Beckham's debut.
> The club had built a campaign based on Beckham's arrival to boost interest in the match. The visit for SuperLiga, a tournament between MLS and Mexican clubs, was to be Beckham's only one to the area this season.
> Some fans paid double the price of a ticket for a regular-season FC Dallas game, and others purchased tickets online for as much as $265.
That's ridiculous. I would literally rip off someone's arm if I paid $265 to watch FC Dallas play LA Galaxy in Frisco, Texas. Luckily for fans, it seems as though, FC Dallas' front office will compensate for some of the dissatisfaction Beckham's absence has caused.
-FC Dallas GM Michael Hitchock-
> "For those fans that were coming out to see David and that was the only reason why, we're going to figure out a way to make this up to them," FC Dallas president and general manager Michael Hitchcock said.
It better be something big. Paying $265 for a MLS ticket is borderline robbery. I could take a shit in a paper bag and label it $20 bucks and get a mid-field ticket to a regular season MLS game if I felt the urge to watch soccer. You have a lot of explaining to do, FC Dallas. ____________________________________________ Beckham's no-show spoils party [ DallasNews ] http://thesportspen.com
