We're Talkin About Classless

Not the game, not the game we talkin' about classless. New England teams and fans have been labeled classless simply because....we're on top. The Red Sox have become the Evil Empire Jr., The Patriots are cheaters and both teams ran up the score last night. The Celtics got 3 all-stars, the Eagles are No. 2 and didn't even play Wah Wah Wah. But heres my take on it...BLAME YOURSELVES AND YOUR TEAMS. Allow me to burp you, whining babies.

The Red Sox are buying their players, the Red Sox have more money, their players are mean, the fans are arrogant. Okay, the Red Sox has a larger payroll thats acceptable but at the same time, owners around the league continue to vote against the salary cap. Why? Because unlike in the NBA or the NFL, there aren't any dynasties. The Sox and Yankees make the playoffs but they don't win every year, in fact, most of the time the defending champions don't even make it to the LCS (St Louis, Chicago, Boston, Florida, Anaheim, Arizona) the next year, so why are people whining? The media stay reporting on the Yankees and Red Sox because every time they are in the playoffs the ratings are through the roof. The Sox fans are arrogant but you act like Cleveland fans are model citizens, I mean waving World Series titles isn't exactly the classiest move. Even in the 9th inning you saw no indication of celebration. As for running up the score when have you seen teams intentionally get 3 outs you play until the game is over. Now go to bed Sox haters.....

The Patriots are cheaters, the Patriots are unsportsmanlike, the Patriots don't deserve their championships. When SpyGate broke, every team, player and fan had something to say. What made matters worse was when coaches said their legacy was tainted knowing that at one point they did the same thing. They are talking about running up the score, why not run up the score I wouldn't give the ball to Sammy Morris to finish off a game, I'd take my chances going deep. Besides that there is no mercy rule in the NFL, you want them to stop running up the score you stop them from scoring just as if you don't want a player to do a TD dance you keep him out the end zone. Period. PS No one saw a problem with Jason Taylor celebrating a TD while down by 28 points but Manny got bashed for celebrating a meaningless HR.

The Celtics got three all-stars and are the favorites, they haven't played a game yet that's not fair. I'll keep this brief due to the lack of NBA fans on here. Honestly, Celtics fans endured a lot last season from Red Auerbach's death, to the 18 game losing streak, to losing the draft lottery. The Celtics deserve a championship, they went from a dynasty to irrelevant to the city of Boston. They need a return to glory.

BC Eagles dont deserve No. 2 (insert team here) deserves it more. Any college football fan knows the BCS is full of sh*t. The overrated Buckeyes dont deserve to be No. 1 and when its all said and done I got LSU vs Oklahoma, but for now the Eagles are undefeated in the suddenly competitive ACC, Matt Ryan is having a Heisman-caliber year and USF blew it.

So that wraps up my rant...vote....comment..let it get buried...I don't care what you do and you know why? Because we're talking about classless!

Here's the funny thing. I know 1 Devil Rays fan, and he's classless. I know a few hundred Red Sox fans, and have encountered thousands of them, and I'd say only 1/2 of them are classless. So the Rays fans must be 100% classless, and the Red Sox fans are only 25% classless.

Pop off AFTER you win something. Like the "classless" fans of St. Louis, Indianapolis, San Antonio and Anaheim did. Oh that's right, those towns aren't filled with people that have inferiority complexes, so they don't spout garbage like this...the garbage we come to expect from the millions of Sports Guy wannabes.

The fine folks of Denver don't act like this.

Rawb, who is this "Devil" Rays fan you know?

If you infer that it's me, I want to remind you that you DON'T know me. Yeah, I'm so classless... better than being an asshole, I suppose.

BTW - I became a "Rays" fan through an Ebay charity to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Before March, I was just a "baseball" fan. A fan of the game, not a devoted zealot to geographically derived blind faith.

The winning bidder donated $1000 more than the winning bid to the charity and chose for me to be a Rays fan.

There really are things happening in the world outside of Schmuckville. I mean, Myopiaville, I mean Boston. Too bad you're so consumed with overcoming your deficiencies to take note...

My deficiencies have absolutely nothing to do with my sports team affiliation.

You're right, Manny, I don't know you; but I do know the persona you TRY to portray yourself as: the high and mighty sports fan looking down on others because they devoutly follow a team.

And yeah, I used a colon and a semi-colon in the same sentence, and I'm proud of myself for doing so. And no, I don't care if I was gramatically correct,

I don't "try" anything - I AM a high and mighty sports fan. I was reading and discarding/disregarding Bill James books before you were born. My parents gave me a Baseball Encyclopedia every Christmas and Sports Almanacs every birthday. Sports is a part of who I am, not my raison d'etre, but the sports part is deeply entrenched in my DNA.

I even "played" the games I enjoy (not just on a video game console).

I'm also a high and mighty "lots of other things". Creative, energetic and tortured genius, artist, musician, poet, philosopher, ordained theologian, caretaker to living things, and (my favorite part) Stay at Home Dad.

There's a difference between devout following and thoughtless effusion of insightless cranial ooze.

See, my ego is so great I CAN root for the Rays or the WNBA or Noodling and feel AWESOME about it... because I'm NOT a lemming doing whatever WEEI tells me is en vogue.

(yea, I really do love myself that much)

AND, when the Rays are winning the AL East, you can bet your teeny little gonads that I won't be pulling out the funnel and stick to shove it down anyone's throat.

Manny, you've got to stop doing this. Everytime you get into an argument with me, you always turn the topic into something about shoving stuff down throats, or up asses. You might want to seek a therapist, as I noticed it wasn't one of the things you claim to be. The fact that you brought my gonads into it is also disturbing.

What's the value of deeming a game to be over with 30:00 left? How does not trying to score help you win? I felt that the game was over, so long as the Patriots didn't screw up. And by not trying to score, that would be screwing up.

I don't think the fake spike in the second quarter was running up the score... I do think bringing Brady back into the game was running up the score... I don't think passing all game long is that bad because there isn't a running game... I don't think Brady should be in games up by 4 TDs unless they are playing the Colts (because the Colts are probably the only team that can come back down by 4 TDs to the Pats right now)...

Red Sox, ok. Celtics, ok. Eagles, ok. But the Pats? "...Why not run up the score I wouldn't give the ball to Sammy Morris to finish off a game, I'd take my chances going deep." That's a classless statement right there. The Packers are 5-1 and they still look to their pathetic running game to finish off the games, because three-and-outs still chew up more clock than a one play drive for six. Putting in Matt Cassell for two plays, having him throw a pick, and even though you're still up by four touchdowns, you put Brady back in? Belichick is Grade A classless. Genius as he may be, he's still an asshole.

Oh, to live in Boston under the glow of reflected glory! Must be nice to have good teams when your life's value is defined by said teams.

Meanwhile, "normal" (classless) people in the "real" world find value in their OWN lives.

I hope the Red Sox win the Series, the Pats win the Super Bowl and you burn your second rate little-sister-of-a-town to the ground.

Every bar getting a gratuitous Irish name, the English language being murdered on every street corner, and Tom Brady jerseys as far as the eye could see.

I'm a Yankee fan so clearly the Sox spending doesn't bother me. It's kind of funny how little it bothers the Sox fans though who always complained about the yankees spending in the past. As for running up the score, the pats clearly did it, but it's not a huge deal. It happens, get over it. These days between Power Rankings and BCS standings etc etc, running up the score has become a part of life. I've seen high school football teams call timeouts up 30+ points in the fourth quarter. It's a shame, but that's what we've come to so accept it and move on.

Regarding the Patriots running up the score by passing the ball late in a blowout game. Laurence Maroney started, and was featured on the first drive of the game. But he didn't play a single snap after the 1st quarter. He's coming off an injury, and it is possible that he aggravated said injury. Sammy Morris got hurt in the Dallas game.

Now, you're Bill Belichick, both your #1 and #2 RBs are injured, do you risk losing your 3rd or 4th RBs by having them carry the ball every down late in the game? Remember, almost every run play ends with the RB being tackled. And almost every run play involves the RB being hit several times from several different directions.

Why else would they put the backup QB in and have him throw the ball? Cassel threw a horrible pass on 2nd and 8, then an even worse pass on 3rd and 8 that was picked and returned for a TD. Do you really think Belichick was trying to drive up the score by putting in a backup? No, he was trying to protect his RBs because he had already potentially lost 2 of them. And he was trying to protect his starting QB. However, Cassel looked HORRIBLE. And after the INT return, it was a 3 score game. Another such return, and it'd be a 2 score game.

So Brady goes back in for one more drive, which had 3 pass attempts and 2 rushing attempts. Then the Dolphins drive and score. Then 3rd stringer Gutierrez comes in, and even HE attempted a pass on a 3rd and 5, but the drive was mostly rushing by Eckel. And guess what, the Dolphins used all 3 of their timeouts on that drive. You can't complain about the Patriots not running the clock down when the other team is still trying to get the ball back and score, even though there's 3 minutes left in a 3 score game.

The pick-6 didn't make it a three score game, it made it a three TD game. Big difference.

Personally, I think scoring a TD with 19 seconds left (when already up by 14) against the Cowboys is a perfect example of running the score up. Belichik has a chip on his shoulder because so many were questioning the legitimacy of the Pats SB titles.

Side Note: IMHO, we should question the Pats titles. Everything done for Belichik's entire career is in question. But this is not the forum for that discussion.

It's sad really. The 2007 Patriots are an historically great football team and most of America (from what I can tell) is already sick of their story.

I know I am tired of hearing about them (and the Sox) all the time.

Helluva a comeback by the Sox though.

In the Cowboys game, the Pats were in the red zone, with less than 2 minutes, and Dallas called a time out. If Dallas hadn't called a time out, the Pats could have run the clock down by kneeling. Instead, the Patriots ran the ball and got a TD.

They ran one of the simplest plays in football, HB off-tackle. The Cowboys didn't stop it. What would you have the Pats do there? Kneel and give the ball back to Dallas? Kick a field goal that might get blocked and returned for a TD (making it a 7 point game)?

After Eckel's TD run in Dallas, the game was over. It was a 21 point game with 23 seconds on the clock. If the Patriots kneel, it's a 14 point game with 23 seconds left (clock stops on turnover of downs). 14 points in 23 seconds is next to impossible, but it still isn't impossible.

I am also tired of hearing about the Patriots. All ESPN, CBS, and Fox talk about is the Patriots. But is that the Patriots fault? No.

Before the season, all the haters said that Randy Moss would break up the team's chemistry. That hasn't happened (yet, could still happen).

Then we beat the Jets, with Moss putting on a show. But then WhineGate broke and everyone called the Pats cheaters. They said that without the cameras, maybe we wouldn't have won all those titles.

Then we destroyed the Chargers and won 4 other games.

Then everyone said that the Patriots had yet to face a quality opponent. The Chargers looked dreadful, the Jets suck, the Bills suck, the Browns are mediocre, and the Bengals suck.

So then we beat the 5-0 Cowboys in Dallas.

But now the complaint about the Patriots is that they score too many points.

Get over it, guys. The Patriots are a great team. Are they the best in the NFL? I'm the first one to tell you "I don't know." That is determined on the field, in Glendale this year. And that game won't be played for a long, long time.

Until then, the Patriots will play football. And part of the game of football involves scoring as many points as you can. It isn't a "classy" competition, it isn't a friendly game between buddies, and it isn't a beauty pageant. It's fucking football.
