Born on June 20, 1902 in Richwood, West Virginia, Wayland Dean (Wayland Ogden Dean) played for the New York Giants, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 4 year career. Dean broke into the bigs on April 17, 1924 with the New York Giants, and put up a 5.01 ERA in 125.2 innings pitched in 1924, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Wayland Dean's best season was 1925, when he posted a 4.64 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 53 batters.
