Way To Go Yanks!

[1] You shouldn't be surprised, it was expected. Going to the playoffs is something the Yankees do every year. Many didn't believe, but they were proven wrong.
The Yankees won over Tampa Bay 12-4. The Yankees had to win. They clinched a playoff spot. They're not missing the playoffs, the Yanks want to compete.
I wouldn't expect a division win, but the wild card is going to happen. No competition in the A.L. wild card, it's all Yankees. The Yankees 4 game lead makes the wild card uninteresting.
"This is what it was about. It was a lot of unselfishness," Torre said. "There were a lot of guys who played through some injuries, played through some fatigue. And, of course, Alex -- we sort of rallied around him." The Yankees are strong, and that's the reason for this. They can't win without unselfishness.
This was hard, because of inconsistent problems. It's unbelievable at the end. "This definitely has been the hardest one," Jeter said. "We really battled." The Yankees were tested all season, and succeeded.
This doesn't mean Joe Torre isn't leaving. "Who knows? This could be his last time in," Johnny Damon said. "We're hoping not. You have to savor every moment. Enjoy it. The team we have now, where we came from, being way back, we couldn't be happier. We have a World Series to win, but this thing is really special." It's special, but the World Series is questionable. Joe Torre will bring attention. "We don't talk about it," Torre said. "We just talked about team, basically. They wanted to get a feel on what Brian and I thought about the guys we're going forward with." Torre doesn't talk about it, but the media will. It's going to be news. Torre met with Steinbrenner, but future management wasn't talked about. Clinching the playoffs was on their minds. "I'm elated," Steinbrenner said in a statement. "After a tough first half of the season when everyone seemed to lose faith except for our players and our fans (what about Torre), the team has really stepped up and shown themselves to be the champions that they are. ... I really like the mix of veterans and younger players who have contributed to this comeback. It has been exciting to watch them play, coalesce and pull together. The fans and I look forward to the team accomplishing our ultimate goal -- bringing a world championship back to New York." It's a story, but it was expected. We knew the Yanks were going to the playoffs. Torre is the hot topic. It's surprising if he stays.
Joy is the feeling. Maybe the Torre topic will rest. "There was a great deal of fight in these guys. We're Lazurus back from the dead, you know, and we're real proud of what these guys did," Cashman said. "This is really a heck of an accomplishment for them to do what they just did. Now we, hopefully, can keep it going. Our dream is still alive." The Yanks almost miss the playoffs, but they made it. Great feeling!
