It was the football weekend away to beat all football weekends away and we even got to play a game. In the end the performance showed a lot of promise for a game that started off a little poorly.
Playing against Taby FC's (a Swedish 5th tier team) 3rd 11 we were a little unprepared as to how good a passing game they would actually have and it didn't help that we started the first of 3 half hour games with a slightly weakened team, having 3 non WIFC players involved.
Soon Taby were a couple of goals up and it looked as though it could be a rout, but some decent defending and the desire to score the perfect goal on their part kept the score to 0-2.
Half hour 2 was a little better, just 2 non WIFC'ers and the non-stop running of Richard Wenham up front meant the teams were slightly better matched, although there was still a noticable gulf in class. Taby increased their lead to 0-3 early on, but then the extrodinary happened...

Enough of that though.
The second of the 3 half hours ended 1-1, so 1-3 overall.
The decision was taken to start the final 3rd with as strong a team as we could and it seemed to pay off straight away as WIFC matched the commitment and running of Taby. Chris Dundon was making his return from the serious injury that has kept him out for 6 months and what a return. Before too long he'd opened his account with a fantastic looping finish over the keeper. 2-3.
More chances came and went, Lozza Wells spurning perhaps the best opportunity to draw the game level. Unfortunately Taby managed to add another goal to the scoreline before the ref blew the final whistle to draw the game to a close at 2-4.
By no means was it an easy win for Taby though and everyone is looking forward to a prospective rematch on a sticky, bobbly Cassiobury park pitch later in the year!
