Water Cooler:US Soccer's Bigger Miracle

The US beat top-rated Spain 2-0 tonight, advancing to the Confeds Cup Final. Spain had been unbeaten in 35 straight games, with a 15 game win streak. Now I'm starting to think that SSR was right and there. But while some have gone so far as to say "US Soccer has 'made it' on the world stage," I'd venture to say that "making it" would mean that an upset like this wouldn't be so absolutely shocking.

USA plays the winner of Brazil/South Africa.

I wouldn't say we "Made It" that would be to suggest that we can win the 2010 World Cup (or that we have a "real shot"). After watching every U.S. game since 1998 (I mean every) I'd say that we've come much closer to reaching the Quarter-Finals. At that point it all depends on your draw, some luck, and two or three playmakers.

While we may be able to make it out of the group stage (I still wouldn't favorite us doing us but our chances have increased greatly from near none to respectable) it will be very difficult to win 4 straight games against the worlds best 15 teams.

We can hope and wish for World Cup glory, but let's continue to focus on World Cup "RESPECT" which means making it out of the group stages and not being ran off the field in the knockouts.

I was working the "exciting" superliga doubleheader and kept checking the score on my phone going this must be a mistake in the score no way the us in beating spain. If we can qualify and made get a seed so we won't be in the group of death I think the us can make the quaters maybe with some luck the semi's in 2010

Those games were dull as dull can be. I got home, saw the replay was on, turned on the game at the 70th minute to see the US up 1-0 and couldn't quite believe it.

Sweet can't wait to see connor kasey and Jose francisco torres tear it up at the gold cup. The tens of fans will be excited. Working the triple header hopefully will have some good looking women there
