Watch out Big East, Cincinnati here to stay

That's right, Cincinnati has a football team too, and they're also called the Bearcats. And there's something stirring in the Bearcat football program that hasn't been there for many a generation - they have a real football team. Who else noticed the slow creep up the rankings for the once doormat program (in the C-USA no less)? It's no smoke and mirrors, not a joke, all this is for real, the Cincinnati football program is here to stay.
It's really puzzling that the Cincinnati football program has been dormant for so many years, especially since that area is a hotbed of highschool football talent. Granted, a lot of the prized recruits end up going to higher profile universities like Ohio State, or Michigan, but there's still plenty of talent left over to headline a good recruiting class, and have talented players. Now they can dip into that goldmine with the coaching talent to take them to the next level.
Mark D'Antonio got things started when he was there, and even though his success wasn't evident through his record, he rebuilt the foundation of what was a hapless program. Let's not forget, that D'Antonio himself is reaping the benefits, using it as a springboard to the head coaching job at Michigan State. In swoops Brian Kelly, one of the brightest young minds in coaching to take over for a program on the rise. They announced their entrance as a player in the Big East when they thumped Oregon State by 30 some points - that's a very impressive win against a semi-quality opponent. What was a stagnant offense last year has turned into an impressive aerial show, and he's to thank.
West Virginia didn't take overnight when Rodruigez got there, and Louisville took years to build up all the way from the seedlings of John L. Smith. This isn't an overnight process, but they're doing things the right way, like nabbing former highly sought recruit Demetrius Jones as a transfer from Notre Dame. This isn't a fluke, this is just the beginning of Cincinnati starting to recruit talent.
More like Jones will follow, and why not? The program is on the rise, the coach loves offense, and can produce. They've got a good stadium, and the fans have started to show up. Big East is quickly becoming one of the most competitive BCS conferences.
The only thing that remains is, what the fuck's a Bearcat?!
