Washington Wizards Part Ways With Jarvis Hayes

The Washington Wizards said goodbye to Jarvis Hayes yesterday, who signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Pistons for a portion of the team's midlevel exception. The team's first round pick and 10th overall in the 2003 draft, the 6-8 swingman came to the Wizards with a shooting touch and decent athleticism, but severe knee injuries limited his playing time in his first three seasons.
On a team ripe with slashers, Hayes would have stood out on this year's roster as a dependable-enough shooter, and that's something the Wizards will potentially miss in the latter stages of the next season. But with DC's favorite John on deck to be signed, and the signing of DeShawn Stevenson, more athleticism and stronger perimeter defense might be just what push for Gilbert and Co. to excel at the next level.
