Was A-Rod right in going behind his agent's back with the Yankees?

This is a question that is going to be answered when the players associiation has to approve the new contract.  I would think that he has a siigned contract with his agent to deal with his contract and by going behind him it may not be something that is legal and most certainly wrong.  What about the agent's percentage?  Does he or doesn't he get it and if not why not? Coward is the word that comes to mine now but what else has he done since entering the league.   Primadonna, thinks he is bigger than the game and other adjectives comes to my mind.  Not question in his talent although I have seen better overall ballplayers in my 89 years and ones that didn't put themselves ahead of the game.  I have heard people say he is doesn't delivery under pressure and doesn't had the baseball heart that the great players have had before him. But all the pressure he has put himself under is his own and while he has had some very real numbers a lot of questions are going to be asked now after what he just did behind his agents back and baseball's back.  Unless he does something really stupid with drugs there is no question he will end up in the hall of fame, but if I was an owner in todays' baseball market I wouldn't want him on my team because of all the situational problems he causes.  He gives you 45+ homers 100+ RBI's and runs but the downside to the rest of the team isn't something a smart owner or manager would want to deal with. He still hasn't won a World Series and was proven time and again he doesn't delivery in the post season on a consistent basis.  I do believe the media is partly to blame for this because of all the coverage they give to him on everything from his warmup swings to going to the bathroom in the locker room.  If you are a New Yorker you most likely either love him or can't stand him and even that causes problems in the stands with fans and the like. I maybe unrealistic about this type of individual but I look back at all the years before and there were quite a few strange players to say the least but what has happened now and most of it is due to A-Rods attitude and apparent lack of caring for baseball tradition.  Babe Ruth was a big pain in the ass for not just Miller Huggins and the owners but one thing I can say about him he was up front with his feelings towards the fans and baseball which is something that A-Rod hasn't been.  And one thing I can tell you from experience is what he did behind Boras's back will have some kind of counter reaction by the fans, the players and maybe baseball and most certainly the players association'  Gutless cowardly and without merit is the only way I could personally view what he just did.  His telling everyone he was opting out during the World Series, like always showed not class and nothing but me me me and now sticking the knive into his agent's back just completes the job that he started when he signed the complete insane first mutli million dollar contract, shame of Texas for starting but more shame on New York for extending it and now he thinks he runs baseball.  I can do anything I want without worrying about the trouble it cares for everyone else. It looks like he wasn't going to get what he wanted so he decided to act like a little brat and go running back to the Yankees with his tail between his legs and beg them to take him back.  As a fan for over 80 years I can say even with his numbers he doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath with the greats of the past.  If I am wrong then I maybe wrong but I can't remember any ballplayer doing what he has done in the way he has done it with such contempt for the fans and teammates.

The agent is supposed to work in the best interest of his client. He works FOR the athlete. Therefore, the athlete has the right to do whatever they want, legally. The agent is a go-between that needs to justify himself in every transaction and whose job is ALWAYS at risk (or should be anyway). Take the Kenny Rodgers case: He wanted to stay in Detroit. Boras wanted money. Boras did not act upon his clients wishes, which is a violation of his contract AND whatever ethics may (or should) exist within the agent community. In any other profession Boras would not have just gotten fired, he would have been sanction by his professions self-regulating body and would have gotten sued on top of it over this Rodgers issue.

Sadly Boars will get his percentage in this A-Rod deal, because he was not fired beforehand. The player has control, the agent has nothing. Agents would be wise to remember this, and the sporting community would be better off if the balance of power shifted away from agents. Agents are middle-men that are not needed for the transaction to take place. I bought my first home without real estate agents involved and nothing bad happened. I may have overpaid a bit, but I would have anyway to cover commissions, plus it was 2 less ego's to deal with so that made for less hassle. Sports agents aren't needed, many times they are useful, but they are not needed.

I cannot rant further upon this, just know that you are way off base here. In this situation Boras is the bad guy and as much as you hate him (and I don't like him much either) A-rod is the good guy.

I saw it as a good cop-bad cop situation A-Rod saw that the Yankees was his only option so instead of looking like he's crawling back he ditched Boras but I doubt Boras was completely unaware of his actions. In fact it was a smart PR move to help A-Rod win back Yankee fans, who were done with him when he opted out. So now Boras is the bad guy and A-Rod is the hero considering he's there for the next 10 years its best that its an enjoyable 10
