Born on June 22, 1920 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Walt Masterson (Walter Edward Masterson) played for the Washington Senators, Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 14 year career. Masterson broke into the bigs on May 8, 1939 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 5.55 ERA in 58.1 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Walt Masterson's best season was 1947, when he posted a 3.13 ERA, won 12 games and struck out 135 batters.
