Wally Hilgenberg (Walter Hilgenberg) was born on September 19, 1942 in Marshalltown, Iowa. After going to high school at Wilton Junction (IA), Hilgenberg attended the University of Iowa. Hilgenberg made his professional debut in the NFL in 1964 with the Detroit Lions. He played for the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions over the course of his 15 year career.

Most people believe that 1972 was Wally Hilgenberg's best year, as he ran back an interception for a touchdown.
