Wally Gerber (Walter Gerber) was born on August 18, 1891 in Columbus, Ohio. He made his Major League debut on September 23, 1914 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1915, his rookie year, he hit .194 with 0 home runs and 7 RBI. Gerber played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Browns and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 15 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Wally Gerber's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1923, when he hit for a .281 average and knocked in 62 runs. However, others believe that it was 1922, when he knocked in 51 runs.
