Wally Backman (Walter Wayne Backman) was born on September 22, 1959 in Hillsboro, Oregon. He made his Major League debut on September 2, 1980 for the New York Mets. In 1982, his rookie year, he hit .272 with 3 home runs and 22 RBI. Backman played for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies and Seattle Mariners over the course of his 14 year career.

Most people believe that Wally Backman's best season was 1985, when he stole 30 bases.
