Walker's Rants on a Soggy Day..

by BigPPup

A weekend without DI college football just doesn’t feel right. However, there was D IAA and I’m okay with watching that as long as it’s about the gridiron. So as the bowl season gets ready to get underway and the race for the playoffs heats up, Walker’s Rants is here to bring the heat, and make it a little hotter.

Tony Romo once again proved he will be the next big thing in the NFL…

Tim Tebow deserved to win the Heisman…

Ricky Hatton got tattooed, I should have known better than supporting the English…

Someone will pay Barry Bonds to play next year…

Two years is excessive, sorry Mike…

Colt Brenen is a system QB and he will be exposed by Georgia…

Chris Long was the best defensive player in the country this past year…

Mike Vick will not start for another NFL team…

Navy football will never regain their glory with Johnson gone…

I actually felt sorry for Madden and Michaels last night for having to fill all that dead airtime…

All I want for Christmas is my Mitchell report…

The Giants might be the worse 9-4 team I’ve ever seen…

The NFL has to get rid of these celebration penalties…

I want to have Isiah Thomas’s luck with employment when I grow up…

When the Bengals and 49’ers play on Saturday, will anybody care?

Anthony Smith, shut up…

Steven A. Smith shut up…

Women’s volleyball… ain’t nothing wrong with that…

How are the Wizards winning without Agent 0…

The problem in Philly is not McNabb, its Reid…

“To hell with a rookie wall, I play ball” Well said Landry…

The Chicago Bears and Baltimore Ravens should merge…

Not many people will care about that bengals and 49'ers game, but the Patriots will.

I'm trying to imagine vick and tebow in the same backfield...

The mitchell report is literally coming in the next 2 weeks...

and yes, the NFL is getting ridicilous...i saw an incredibly minor spike by a player on the ground over the weekend...

I also agree that the giants are terrible...

and Reid is slowly becoming a playcalling fiasco waiting to happen...its just miserable...

but its time for McNabb to move on...I might be jealous, but McNabb winning the SB trophy at some point wouldn't bother me...i'd love to see him raise it in philly...but i'd rather parley mcnabb into a rebuild for the eagles than hold it against the guy... he may not be done, but he's probably done as an eagle...

I think that McNabb is still a talented player, I also think that Philly has sucked his joy of the game away from him. A change of scenery and he will be back to the same ol'McNabb.

Fair enough, he needs to drop about 35 pnds and lose about 4 years.

he dropped a few pounds this offseason actually...i remember a few years ago he was pushing over 250 pounds...but it was muscle and it helped...think a player not as quick as vick, not as strong as culpepper and not as good of an arm as manning... but still good at each...jack of all trades

I know no one is going to care about this arguement but you are dead wrong with your assessment of the Navy football program. They hired a new coach, Ken Niumatalolo who will never let this program go back to the Pre-Johnson days. He can run the option just as good as PJ does and will do a great job keeping this program rolling. Plus, if you haven't noticed, its the players that play the game, not the coaches. They line up every down and hit the guy across from them, all the coaches do it help them be the best players they can be. They will be fine and the program will keep rolling which you can watch on December 20th when they put it to Utah. Thanks for your time.

the part where the coaches recruit the players. my high school running back was one of the hardest running players i've ever seen and he was passed up just be he was "too small" and you hear that story so man times its not even funny

You hear it because its true 9 times out of 10. Size matters, look at Navy why do you think they struggle when they play schools from major conferences? Everyone on the team is under 6'4 and 250 pnds.

and you can't measure heart, thats why they still do decent even if they aren't playing the big boys every week but what I'm saying about size is, you really don't have to be 6'9 and 320 to play big time ball.

Heart is great, and it means a lot but all the heart in the world cannot overcome all the odds. I hate to be that way, but it is true.

Again heart is great, and I want every player on my team to have heart, but if I need a left tackle to protect my QB's backside Im taking the guy who is 6'7 345 with heart over the 5'10 280 guy who plays hard.

Thats fine, but navy proves that you can win with the 6'2 270 linemen. thats all i have to say.

Navy plays well, because they run an offense that is difficult to simulate during the season, so teams are not able to prep against it. Its no different than when teams play Hawaii's run and shoot, or Texas Tech. However, when Navy does play big name teams, (see the Rutgers game) they struggle matching up size wise against them. Remember Navy earns several wins a year simply by playing the other Armed servies.

Your right we struggled with Rutgers. They are a good team. But we still played well and ran the ball on them. We played Pitt and they were the 9th defense in the country at the time and they couldn't stop us. Yeah sure our defense is struggling but we can hold our own. And we play 2 service academies a year, thats only two wins. Yeah and you are going to say ok what about the rest of your schedule, and my rebuttal to that is, it isn't easy to win a single game on any level. So any win is big to us, especially since we are usually underdogs.

No doubt, Navy plays hard everytime out. That makes them dangerous. Throw in a screwy offense, that almost no one sees anymore and you have the chance to pull out a win everytime out. But back to my original point, replacing PJ is not an easy task by a long shot. He brought life to a program that was dead in the water.

THe biggest thing that I agree with is the celabrations penalty. Especially that ridiculous delay of game call for spiking a ball. Also if their is a flag on the play and then than the player gets flagged for spiking the ball the other penalty should be assessed and then the 5 yards should be subtracted from the total.

There's no definition to it. Besides how can they always call a delay of game from spiking the ball but never (ever!) call a horse collar tackle (I've probably seen two called in my life)...

Give the refs some area to play in and it would be a lot fair...I'm all for penalizing a guy who's being a douche (Bart Scott...second penalty)...but not for a little ticky-tack shit...

Keep the rules the same (maybe change the language a little) and let the refs define what they believe is excessive...sounds good to me

The refs need the ability to use discretion when making a delay of game call. Its just to odifficult ot make a blanket ruling.

I love how they keep trying to find ways to make the games go faster. The NFL Blames the Players and coaches but never looks in the mirror. What's the point of speeding up the game if they are just going to fill that extra time with TV timeouts.
