Wade Phillips is weighing down Cowboys

11

by Suckatsports

Dallas Cowboys are pretty much stocked with talent this year.

They've got a young gun at QB who can make every throw in the book, even if he's a little over anxious sometimes. They've got several running backs that will make things tough on defenses. And they've got a pretty good defense to boot. So, why can't I pick this team to go any further than they did last year? Wade Phillips.

Wade has had a coaching job before, and it didn't go well - in Buffalo. There are some people that are just great coordinators, but make terrible head coaches: Martz, Campo, Crennel. Add Wade to that list. As a defensive coordinator, he has to be top-5 in the league. He took the Falcons, under his tutelage to the NFC championship. Then, he was on the horribly underachieving but regular-season-dominant San Diego Chargers team. He tutored Shawne Merriman, and he's turned out to be one of the best [young] defensive players in the league.

There's no doubt in my mind, that Wade was hired to look good (?) on the sidelines, while Jerry Jones does the actual coaching. Unlike Parcells, Wade has no leverage of success, and is a dough-boy in more ways than one. He's completely clueless what to do as a head coach, and he'll screw things up for a very talented Dallas Cowboys team. I think of him as an equivalent of Flip Saunders. When things are going great, he's the man. When things start falling apart, he'll stare blankly onto the field.

I think every Eagle fan was happy to see Wade become the Cowboys head coach. It was like having a second Christmas. And really, after beating the Cowboys on Christmas at their house, what could have been any better? :)

Any person over the age of 55 should not be hired as head coach. I wanted Ron Rivera ever since Steven Jackson decided to be awesome at runningback. Now I'm stuck with Phillips but I won't criticize until after January.

He's from Chicago, his defense is awesome and as far as I've heard, players love him. Plus he's young for a head coach. All recipes for success.

Used to be the line coach for the eagles...99 to...04 or 05 i don't remember... Coincidently, Steve Spagnoulo (the new giants D coord), was a former eagles LB coach...and of course brad childress...

That would be cool, intensifies the rivalry. I was estatic when TO came to the Cowboys. If he came straight from SF, not so much. I wish Dawkins switched sides earlier in his career... (too late now)

Insan, I was gonna snark on you about your statement that young coaches are part of the recipe for success. Until I researched Super Bowl winners for the last several years. They've all been under 55. Thanks for pointing that out!

That is correct...i read an ESPN article about this a few months ago...right after parcells "retired" again...suggesting that coaching is a young man's game... Don't even get me started on Shanahan...thank god that douchebag is over the hill

Nah, Andy would completely forget that we have two runningbacks and just make Romo keep throwing the ball/getting chased around/getting sacked into he's injured thus costing us the Super Bowl year after year after year after year after year after year after year... (Thats 7 right?)

How many division titles have the cowboys won since Andy became coach... You know what's really funny...we hear 2 constants as eagles fans now...they need to run the ball and they have no receivers...does that make any sense...if our receivers really did suck, wouldn't we be running the ball?

Let's see, Andy Reid has coached 5 of the last NFC East winning teams. During that time, the Cowboys had what, 3 coaches? You surely can think we believe you when you say that you don't want Reid to be the coach of the Cowboys because he will lose the Super Bowl year after year. Well, at least you would be making it to the Bowl year after year, or be a legitimate contender to make it there. And lets face it, the Cowboys are not legitimate contenders right now.

That's exactly the difference between Cowboys fans and Eagles fans, you guys are satisfied with Division titles, we accept nothing less than a super bowl win. If we don't win the super bowl, I dont care if we're NFC champions or we finish the season 3-13. And the two constants are exactly why you guys keep failing every year, with shitty recievers Reid continues to want to pass the ball instead of running it.

Read D21Dubs article, there's a reason McNabb has good stats...he's a good QB...and you can't be a good QB without receivers...they get the job done...in fact, this corps might be the best in quite a while... As far as running...Westbrook isn't a power/load back...he's shifty and a lot of those passing yards are actually screens...

I discount what the media folk predict. They normally have the Cowboys winning the division every year. See last year. :) The Cowboys are still a ratings draw, hence they are hyped beyond their playing ability. I'm sorry, a Wade Phillips coached team, with Tony Romo at QB, and T.O. on the roster is not a SB contender.

Justin -- Ok, thats great, I'm not talking about McNabb. He has talent, I'll admit it. The recieving core this year is huge question mark. You guys have no one proven. Westbrook would be an awesome runningback if Reid let him run more. This year he's gonna be a monster, watch. Mainly because Reid pulled his head out of his fat ass and discovered, hey we have a runningback? Really? Hell, why not let him run?

Chris -- you said "legitimate contenders". That doesn't mean they will outright win the championship. Legitimate contenders means that their name can be included in the conversation of the super bowl. EVERYONE, except I guess you, has the Cowboys in Super Bowl discussion. That doesn't nessacarily mean that they will win the super bowl.

To be honest with you, only the Eagles, Bears, Saints and Seahawks should be discussed as Super Bowl contenders. The remaining teams in the NFC are not legitimate contenders, at this time. It is true, one of the non-named teams may get hot and make it to the Bowl, only to get slaughtered by the AFC. But that is highly unlikely. So yes, I do not consider the Cowboys to be a legitimate Super Bowl cotender. Call be nuts, but they do not deserve to be mentioned as a Super Bowl caliber team, for they are not.

Says the two Eagles fans that hate everything about the Cowboys... I'm not saying the Cowboys will win the Super Bowl. But to only include 4 teams in the discussion is stupid. First off, 6 teams make the playoffs and they all have a legit shot at the super bowl. Second, I guarentee there will be teams that barely miss the playoffs which means at least 7 or 8 teams should be considered. All it takes is for one team to get hot at the right time. The Cowboys certainly have enough to be considered in the discussion of teams as well as the Eagles.

Eight? Wow, this is like the presidential primary for both parties in the US. In reality, there are fewer than 8 that are true contenders. BTW, Insan - You go to school in Philly and I believe you grew up in the area, or close to it - how have you gone to the darkside that is the Dallas Cowboys?

Yes 8, if the Chiefs won one more game or if the Steelers lost one more game in 2005, the Steelers might've not gotten into the playoffs changing the entire postseason and we would have a different champion. No I didn't grow up in Philly. I grew up in NYC. I go to school in Philly.

At this time last year, no one thought the Saints were a likely contender either. I don't think Dallas is a likely Super Bowl contender, but they are a lot more likely than Detroit and Arizona.
