My college roomate and I used to play this game of straight-faced sarcasm called "I'll always remember him as a..." or alternatively known as "He will ALWAYS be a..."
It could also be called "The Pete Rose Game" for reasons explained below:
It's a simple game, it's easy, anyone can play, follow the bouncing ball...
"I'll always remember Pete Rose as a Montreal Expo"
or "I'll always remember Willie Mays as a New York Met" "I'll always remember Babe Ruth as a Boston Brave" "I'll always remember Tony Dorsett as a Denver Bronco"
alternatively you can say: "When Wayne Gretzky gets enshrined in the Hall of Fame, he's going in a St. Louis Blues"
"Steve Carlton emulated what it means to be a Cleveland Indian/San Francisco Giant/Minnesota Twin"
"Lou Whitaker bleeds Pittsburgh Pirate Yellow and Black"
"The Florida Marlins' greatest all-time player was Mike Piazza"
"When I think Seattle Seahawks, I think Franco Harris" (or Jerry Rice for you youngsters...)
"Wade Boggs sure was one fine Tampa Bay Devil Ray"
of course, the all-timer for one game is: "Rasheed Wallace will be forever remembered as an Atlanta Hawk"
but can you top? "Danny Ainge will always be remembered as a Toronto Blue Jay"
The key is to find a guy who has a HUGE career, plays a majority of his career with one or two teams, a real franchise type guy; then plays a handful of games with some off-the-wall organization...such as Andre Dawson - Florida Marlins, or Randy Johnson - Houston Astros...Dwight Evans - Baltimore Orioles.
Journeymen don't count here, they should be HOF'ers or at least studs.
The best all time would be if a guy like Cal Ripken played 8 games with the Padres... you get the idea
The only rule is the dude had to step on the field/court/ice in an actual game (pre-season and exhibitions don't count) If you can use a defunct organization, that's EXTRA points, AND if the player achieved something outstanding during the tenure EXTRA EXTRA points - thus the "Pete Rose Game" - he had hit #4000 as an Expo
Also, extra points (what are these points good for?) for including 'glorious' language such as "emulates what it means to be a....", "personified the definition of a...", "was a fixture in the community for the..." etc. and so forth...
Only partial credit for entries such as "When I think Ted Williams, I think Washington Senators" or "When I think New York Mets, I think Yogi Berra", they didn't play, but as managers the uniform was on...
Let 'er rip fellas, I know y'all got this one-
