Everyone either has a tattoo or has an opinion on them they are willing to share! I have 8 tattoos (more to come), even more opinions and am actually learning how to apply them as well (tattoos that is...). The art of Tattoo really is the thinking man's classiest expression of art and symbolism.
Tattoos have been applied beneath the subcutaneous layers of man's skin for thousands of years. It is possible Jesus could have had a tattoo (not a cross, a tattoo of Larry Bird, I'm sure) but that is just irrelevant and a cheap way for me to mention Jesus twice. See?
Polynesians apply tattoos by (painlessly) whomping a long needle with a mallet thousands of times 'just right' enough to shove a little dab of ink between the muscle and skin layers, resulting in a wicked awesome tatt!!! Of course, they usually were tattooed for religeous and spiritual reasons, so the pain (and deadly infections from non-sterile application methods) was worth it!
Today any jackoff with a tattoo machine (It's NOT called a gun) and an electrical outlet can scratch their poor, Catherine Hepburn imitating translation of a Tazmanian Devil, "Only the Strong Survive" or Nike symbol onto your now-suddenly-tough-looking bicep... hell, get a tribal while you're at it!!! They last for life!!!
So either you went out and got yourself a Nike tattoo in the mid 90's when it was still cool to get them; or you laughed at some idiot who did...then got a tribal to outdo them!
I'm guessing...(strictly a guess, not a scientific poll of >1% that could be deemed 'verified as acceptable truth' +/- 3%) the percentage of pro athletes (for argument's sake - baseball, basketball, and football players are 'pro athletes') that have tattoos is conservatively 65%, with 98% of those tattooed (or is it tattood?) having 2 or more...(they're highly addictive!!!) whereas the general population is probably - AT BEST, 40% have them, but only 80% have 2 or more...
But why is that? Why would rich, famous athletes have a greater percentage AND more tattoos (as proven by my evidence above)? Easy answer - They can afford paying more for a tattoo - AND of course like anything in this world, you get what you pay for (except for the Knicks). Professional Athletes get better (by better, I mean more expensive) tattoo artists to do their work, they can afford more tattoos and it's attitude advertisement for their image and/or posses/'hoods to rally around back home.
So? This proves only Manny Stiles can support the argument that Tattoos are not just for prisons, bikers, strippers, hippies, ex-Navy guys or Polynesians anymore (based on data that shows very rich, famous, professional and often slightly college-educated people have a higher percentage and more tattoos than the rest of the general public)!
Tattoos are for rich dudes that drive Hummers and Bentleys - statistics prove it!
So you were smart enough to skip to this part because you stopped trying to figure out my point...or you just found out you're dumb enough to read my whole article first...thanks for being dumb enough - it is a compliment to you!
What are your favorite athlete's all-time tattoos? (that's all - time Tattoo, not all-time player with tatoo) Don't just say 'AI' and leave it at that! Explain which tattoo and why! Don't nominate the crappy ones like T Mac's biting barbed wire band from Googs... BEST tattoos (like Amare's 'businessman baller'), not worst (like Richard Jefferson's Pearl Jam biting 'RJ')
[It's a good tattoo, but if you don't know the 'Sheed Egyptian Family' tattoo story, please have someone explain it to you...]
Criteria - location, artwork, design originality, presentation and 'pizzazz!!!'
