[edit] Biography
Vince Hall is a senior linebacker for the Virginia Tech Hokies. One of the leaders of the Hokie defense, Hall and teammate Xavier Adibi will graduate as two of the best linebackers in school history.
[edit] High School
Hall was one of the best players in Virginia at Western Branch High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he was the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2002. He was also named an All-American by SuperPrep and PrepStar after his monster senior year, where he recorded over 120 tackles, 23 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks and 3 interceptions. He also played at tight end. He chose the Hokies over North Carolina, NC State, Penn State, South Carolina and Tennessee.
[edit] College
Hall red-shirted in 2003. In his first collegiate start in 2004, he led the team with 10 tackles against Western Michigan. His best game in his first season came in a win against 6th-ranked West Virginia, when he notched 4 tackles, a forced fumble and his first collegiate sack. His first season set the stage for a career in which he would barely miss a game in four years.
His sophomore season in 2005 showed what a force Hall could be for the Hokie defense. Mixed in with 112 total tackles were 8.5 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 8 passes broken up and 15 quarterback hurries. He also scored 2 touchdowns, one on an interception return against Boston College and another on a fumble return against Marshall. He was one of the Hokies' Frank O. Moseley Awards, given to players working hard and hustling in the off-season and spring work outs.
His junior season in 2006 was his best in a Hokie uniform. He led the Hokies and Atlantic Coast Conference in tackles with 128, including 10.5 tackles for a loss. He was named to the All-ACC first team, and the collegefootballnews.com's All American First Team. He also won the Dudley Award, given to the best player in Virginia. His breakout season set the stage for his senior year, and he was named to The Sporting News's Pre-season All-America Second Team and the Pre-season ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
After the shootings at Virginia Tech in April 2007, Hokie football was a welcome sight for students and residents in Blacksburg come the fall. Hall was one of the leaders of the Hokie's "lunch pail" philosophy going into the season. Unfortuneately, Hall's streak of starting 44 straight games ended. He broke his forearm and wrist against Clemson, and missed four games. He still finished the regular season with 92 tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, and 3.5 sacks (career-high for a season).
Hall is now fully healthy, and will lead the Hokies in the Orange Bowl against Kansas after Virginia Tech won the ACC.

[edit] Scouting Report
Hall relies on strength and technique more than speed. He is always near the ball carrier or blocker and hardly ever misses a tackle. He hits very hard. He takes good angles in pursuit and blitzes well. He has a solid body and could add on some weight. He has great leadership qualities as well.
Hall is very blockable. He can get moved around and roughed up if a body is put onto him and gets into him. He lacks ideal speed, and sometimes takes a false step when making his reads. He isn't going to wow you, but he has the potential to be very productive at middle linebacker at the next level. He is projected as a middle-round draft pick.
