Vikings Looking to Dump Culpepper

8
Vote

The Minnesota Vikings are looking to move QB Daunte Culpepper after a lackluster 2005 season. Culpepper dominanted the NFL in 2004 throwing for 4717 yards and 37 touchdowns.

There is some speculation that the Baltimore Ravens will slap the franchise tag on free agent RB Jamal Lewis and trading him to Minnesota for Culpepper. Minnesota owes Culpepper a $6 million bonus on March 16, 2006, and will make $8 million in 2006.

The Star Tribune also reports the Vikings turned down Culpepper's request for a $10 million raise, not surprising coming off a weak start to the 2005 season, ended by a major knee injury. The fact that Culpepper would even ask for a raise under those circumstances does make one wonder if that was his way of requesting out of Minnesota. It has also been reported that the asking price for Culpepper may be as low as a second-round draft pick.

That'd be an interesting deal, to say the least. I'd be surprised if it happened, though.

i think that would be a good deal for the ravens. chester taylor will be a solid rb. i think jamal lewis sucks. i dont see why the vikings have so much confidence in brad johnson, he sucks and is almost forty years old.

if the jets are smart, they would go after him. pennington is no where near as effective as culpepper is. granted he sucked last year, culpepper is only a couple of years removed from that mvp type season he had.

The Jets are already $26 million over the cap. I don't see how they can afford Clupepper.

Seems to be bad blood between him and the organization. Especial now that they turned down his salary request. Although I wouldn't trade him. He has MVP upside and maybe 5 good seasons left. Good QB's are hard to find.

dont they say that qb's hit their prime at 30. i agree that he has atleast five good years left. its good to know the giants wont have to worry about their qb for another 15 years.

I doubt Ravens jump on the trade, just because Culpepper will be asking for a pretty huge raise, and the Ravens won't negotiate a cap killing deal.

By asking for a 10 million dollar raise, Culpepper was asking to be traded. I can't imagine he thinks his 2005 injuries/performance warrant a raise that steep.
