Mummers parade has come to Japan!

This is what the Yakult Swallows fans do when the team scores. They sing the song "Tokyo Ondo" and bob their umbrellas. Although it doesn't sound like "Tokyo Ondo," so I'd have to say that they're just doing a fight song for the current batter.

They used to have functional (larger) umbrellas, but the club has figured out that they can sell these special smaller ones for more, and they interfere with other fans less.

The outfield seats are the domain of the "oendan" or "cheering section" for all of the teams in Japan. Each team has their own set of fight songs for each batter, and a special song for when they score. The fans are as much a part of the game as what's going on on the field. That's why Bobby V. has designated uniform #26 to the fans for the Chiba Lotte Marines - the fans are the 26th member of the roster.
