Manchester United has revealed their plans to commemorate the victims of the 1958 Munich air disaster on the 50th anniversary of the tragedy.
The Busby Babes were on there way home from a European cup match in Belgrade. The plane crashed on takeoff after stopping in Munich to refuel. 23 people died including 8 players most notably Duncan Edwards, the Wayne Rooney or Ronaldihno of his time.Sir Matt Busby was also severely injured in the crash but recovered to lead his side to the historic European Cup triumph ten years later—the first European Cup won by an English side.
Manchester United will have a permanent free exhibition open to all in the newly named Munich Tunnel outside Old Trafford's south stand. United have also secured permission to wear a commemorative kit in the match against Manchester City in February that will have no sponsors on it and will only have numbers 1 to 11—sorry, none will be on sale. They will also hold a memorial for survivors and families of the victims that will be held at the exact time of the crash 50 years on at Old Trafford. The Manchester United TV channel, MUTV, will run specials about the Busby Babes that will be available to all cable and satellite customers free of charge in the UK. I can’t wait.
Well done to United, Nike and AIG insurance for not trying to cash in on this tragedy. For once it doesn’t seem to be about the bottom line.

I went to the derby at old trafford 2 seasons ago--we drew. If it wasn't for Van der sar making a late save from a Joey Barton blast we would have lost. Already difficult tickets to get will be impossible. I wish I could go, but somehow I don't think that's going to happen.
Edwards was only 21.
