Just in courtesy of SportsTalk 980 of Washington DC.  Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons had his lawyer Billy Martin issue a statement to the media.  In his statement Vick admitted to accepting a deal with the  Fed’s and will enter a guilty plea, and accept full responsibility for all he was accused of.

Maximum of 5 years, $250,000 fine. I say he'll go in jail for one year, come back to the NFL and play for a different team.

Agreed I think he will do 1 maybe 2 years in jail. I also think he will spend a year under suspension. So it will be at least 2 years before he steps foot on the field for any team.

Just waiting for John Clayton to provide the inside scoop that the Oakland Raiders have tentatively agreed to terms with Michael Vick after serving his prison sentence...

I think he won't play in the NFL for 2 years...dunno about total jail time, but with the whole legal process, I'm thinking he'll miss 2 seasons...

BigPPug, you hit the nail on the head. Now that the state of Virginia is in the mix with charges of felony dog fighting and killing it will be very interesting to see what will happen to him now. This is a charge along with the felony gambling charges that makes it a federal violation and that comes with more than 5 years prison time. How do you go from King to moron in such a short period of time. And why did he wait so long to plea out. His lawyers told him last week to go with this plea but he kept waiting for whatever reason. It would seem that his NFL career is over and done so maybe he should get into the dog show business because it looks like that is the only thing he knows anything about. I am sad for the fans of Atlanta and the NFL because it looks like we have lost one of the very good players to something there is no returning from.

Actually, this plea deal means he will avoid additional federal charges. He is only pleading guilty to the felony conspiracy charge of traveling in interstate commerce in aid of unlawful activities. I was really hoping he'd fight this...

We should try to set this up so we don't have 2 dueling articles on the same topic.

Agreed, but is just one of those things. I broke the news as soon as I heard it, but people will hear different things at different times. I write for the love of the story not for the glory.

My concern is more the comments. People make very insightful comments and it is better to have it all in one place for the purposes of discussion.

If they accept the plea then maybe he will avoid the federal charges but now that the state of Virginia is involved, he could be up a creek without a paddle so to speak. State charges have nothing to do with the original charges of dog fighting. What happens in this case is that he could be charged with three different kinds of felony counts. His concern seemed to be to halt the felony charges so he could continue to play in the NFL. The gambling or rackeeting charges are all together different than the felony dog fighting and dog killing charges that are being still considered today. His rearend is really into it. Now his concern maybe what will happen in federal prison, will the inmates look at him as great a NFL hero or what a jerk for killing dogs, betting on them and running this type of illegal operation when he is still a active NFL all-star quarterback. If he isn't worried about that then there is something really wrong with him. The federal prison aren't a playground and he will not get any special type of treatment just because of who he is. Mr. Vick had better hope that the state doesn't want to continue exploring more charges against him and that the judge is willing to not throw the book at him on this charge. As much as dog fighting is going on in the South there still are a tremendous amount of people who are against it for moral reasons and remember the moral character of the South is very very high when it comes to their animals.
