Verne Clemons (Verne James Clemons) was born on September 8, 1891 in Clemons, Iowa. He made his Major League debut on April 22, 1916 for the St. Louis Browns. In 1919, his rookie year, he hit .264 with 2 home runs and 22 RBI. Clemons played for the St. Louis Browns and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 7 year career.

Most people believe that Verne Clemons's best season was 1921, when he hit for a .320 average.
