Vern Mullen (Vern Elmo Mullen) was born on February 27, 1900 in Taylorville, Illinois. After going to high school at Taylorville (IL), Mullen attended the University of Illinois and West Virginia Wesleyan College. Mullen made his professional debut in the NFL in 1923 with the Canton Bulldogs. He played for the Chicago Bears, Pottsville Maroons and Canton Bulldogs over the course of his 5 year career.
