Born on March 20, 1907 in Kansas City, Missouri, Vern Kennedy (Lloyd Vernon Kennedy) played for the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, St. Louis Browns, Washington Senators, Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 12 year career. Kennedy broke into the bigs on September 18, 1934 with the Chicago White Sox, and put up a 3.91 ERA in 211.2 innings pitched in 1935, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Vern Kennedy's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1936, when he posted a 4.63 ERA, won 21 games and struck out 99 batters. However, others believe that it was 1943, when he posted a 2.45 ERA, won 10 games and struck out 63 batters.
