[edit] Welcome Back, Pean

[edit] Check this out

What's the deal?

[edit] Highest rated comment(s) of all time

DNL and I were talking about it, and he suggested you might be able to get it. We think it might have been mine in a caption thread abotu 2 weeks ago. --Joshkross 20:35, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Points

While you were on honeymoon, there was a discussion on points. Do you think that the point system for votes in a good value? My argument is this...Locknessmonster has 1 edit (initial set-up) and 12,686 votes for 128,860 points. He has not contributed to the site, yet he is moving fast up the list. Also, is the point system on edits correct? It takes at least 20 minutes to set up a player page (unless you are Rob), yet the user only gets 25 points, in that same time a person can make, what 50 - 100 star votes? For 500 to 1000 points. I know that you are the point guy. Just asking.Erooster 04:59, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oh!

I thought it was a list of the Top Users! Therefore Manny wasn't there... Thanks for adding the Speedway and handshake stuff. Alex Holowczak 13:18, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

And you probably could take your "away" tag away from your talk page? Alex Holowczak 13:19, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
And one other thing... You could do with a way to move your fan networks in the right order of your fanship without having to delete them and readd them! Alex Holowczak 13:21, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Points

Fair enough, I applied Adam Smith to it -> Withdrawing my Points System Criticisms. Here are my points for changing the points system:

  • You don't want to increase editing points. Because then someone else may complain and want their stat to go up. And then editors complain again. So you get a sort of "inflationary spiral" within the points system.
  • Applying another Economics theory, you could use a supply and demand kind of thing. As more people vote and vote, you should reduce the number of points for voting, and increase it for editing. So if everyone just votes, you reduce the points to an extent whereby voting becomes less rewarding than editing. And keep shuffling it around. If too many people write articles, then reduce the points for that to slow it. If too many people edit, reduce the points for that. And you get the idea, keep shifting it around to encourage people doing different skills. Whether you can program something to calculate that automatically, or you need to do it manually, only you know, but I think a system like that would be ideal. It encourages a mix.
  • I agree it is a great way to introduce them to the site, but since the users seem to be determined to get to Number 1 and that's about it, if they see they get more points for something else, they may do that.
  • Lockness Monster has done a great job, yes, but has his been the greatest contribution to the overall site last week?

So they're my thoughts, I'd be interested to hear what you think.

P.S. Thanks for deleting the yellow box at the top so that you caused an edit conflict... :P

[edit] Points 2

Whatever you guys think on the point system will work for me. I am not happy about it, but I will live with it. I still think that a user needs to actively contribute to the site via editing, commenting, or writing, to rise as fast as we have seen. My opinion only. I, too, think that sitting down for hours to vote on every page is an impressive feat, but HOW does it contribute to the betterment of the site?

On your other point with awards for hardcore editors (which I don't really consider myself [see Rob or Alex for that]), I can see a good reason for doing it. However, as I have found, on numerous player pages, there are simply blank pages or pages filled with blatant fiction. With an award system, how do you control this issue? Or, how do you keep users from just adding without regard to facts or keeping to a standard format, just to add points to their score?

I think that we are dealing with a small can of worms, now. Do we really want to graduate to a larger can?Erooster 05:01, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Challenges

I was looking at them. I just wanted to let you know that there are a lot of them that say that they're in progress that are really completed. Thanks.. Romi

[edit] Question

Is there any way to highlight game recaps as we had on the main page once upon a time?Erooster 04:06, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Boards

Board-to-Board doesn't work, firstly.

And secondly, I think these boards would be good in the fan networks?

Alex Holowczak 17:39, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and can you wikify in them? Alex Holowczak 17:40, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sandbox

I am trying to clean up the sandbox and here you are messing it up all over again.Erooster 01:38, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
