[edit] Welcome
Welcome to ArmchairGM --Awrigh01 10:00, 4 May 2006 (EST)
Welcome to the site! You may be interested in adding fan boxes, your User Stats or a blog-like Opinion Clubhouse to your user page. In any event, let me know if I can assist you with anything. -- DNL (contact me)
[edit] Snooker
You may want to create a page for snooker itself, such that people can find the other pages you've authored. Excellent work!--DNL 12:05, 5 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] "ArmchairGM:"
The "ArmchairGM:" preface for a pagename is used for project pages and website documentation. Can you remove those from your future pages? I'll take care of it for F-1 (I already did for Snooker). Thanks! --DNL 06:44, 6 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Formula One news
You got there before I did. Kudos. I'm going to add something on it sometime soon, possibly including the tables of qualifying and classification. Thank you for making the post first. :) Bobo 09:00, 7 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Elsewhere
As a matter of interest, what are your specialist fields? With snooker, formula one, and American football covered in a matter of the last 50 posts, you seem to be quite an allrounder, and rather a good one at that. Awesome work. Bobo 09:01, 7 May 2006 (EST)

I just added a whole Formula One section. It's a subsection of Auto Racing. Thecrookedcap 16:50, 7 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Hockey Stats
I noticed you tried to input hockey stats. We don't have that yet. So far, we onlyhave NBA, MLB, and offensive players in NFL.--Roblefko 09:05, 16 May 2006 (EST)
I made a "templete" kind of thing for hockey stats, if you want to put more up. Go here http://www.armchairgm.com/mwiki/index.php?title=Madproof9%27s_Projects . it's not as good as the NFL ones or as easy, but it's a start --Madproof9
Yeah, I just put it on a minute ago, so it's all good. It's up to you, I'm fine doing all the Avs, they're my team so I don't mind inputing all their stats or anything, it's kind of cool finding out a little about all the players... I just saw the note from Roblefko about you putting in stats for hockey, and thought I'd show you what I've come up with for the table. --Madproof9
Yeah, up until this year there were ties, no Shoot-outs or anything like that. Losses were just counted in the loss column, so I just have a column for ties, i put all the overtime and shoot-out loses in the ties column, since they have only been around for one year.--Madproof9
Definently, go ahead and do all the Red Wings. I was just gonna finish up the Avs, the Red Wings and anyone else you want are all yours.Sorry, I didn'tmean to make it seem like everyone is mine and no one should touch them. Do as much as you want. --Madproof9
I fixed Shanny's stats for you. Sorry it took so long, I had to go to work, and the internet wasn't working there. --Madproof9
No, doesn't really matter if a specific year is a specific color, I just
made the first line white and then switched off after that. --Madproof9
I just saw your last note. I just finished all of the Colorado Avalanche doing it the table way. It looks alot nicer, it is a big pain, but I think that eventually there will be enough people on the site where each team will have one or two people that keep up all the stats, and it's not that bad for one person to do a team the table way... I just did like 2 or 3 players a day and finished it within a week, so I'm sticking with the table. If you guys want to copy and paste, I'm sure in the future people will come along and change it to the table. Madproof9 16:31, 28 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] Page Title
Hey, I hope you don't mind, i changed your sports statistics title to: Accuracy of Pre-Computer Age Sports Statistics. I envision that in the future we will need the title Sports Statistics for soemthing more general, like a page to provide links to other statistics pages.--Roblefko 10:39, 16 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Category:Snooker Players
You should add players to the category like this:
[[Category:Snooker Players|LastName, FirstName]].
That will alphabetize them. --DNL 05:26, 17 May 2006 (EST)
The reason they are all alphabetized under "S" is because you wrote:
[[Category:Snooker Players|Snooker Players]].
If you write: [[Category:Snooker Players|Davis, Joe]] it would be alphabetized under "D". --Roblefko 05:41, 17 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Snooker Page Names
Alex, Ive moved your pages to 2006 Snooker World Rankings and Snooker World Rankings..remember,there are alot of sports..try not to use general titles that can be applied to any sport..hope you dont mind.--Roblefko 10:36, 17 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Switzerland 1954
Is that a reference to soccer? You need to be more specific with your page names --DNL 05:04, 18 May 2006 (EST)
- Check out what others have been doing for soccer names. You may want to ask User:Bobo or User:thecrookedcap, as they've been doing a lot about it. As for changing the name, you want to use the "move this page" link at the bottom of the page to the correct name. --DNL 05:14, 18 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Some Answers
Your userstats are broken -- we think because of the space in your username. The site is treating "Alex Holowczak" and "Alex_Holowczak" as different entities. We're aware of the problem but haven't had time to address it.
As for fan boxes for players, their is no list, but I think I have a way of doing it. They're all user-created -- there's no reason why Player A has one but Player B does not, other than that someone wanted to create one for Player A. Feel free to create new ones. --DNL 03:35, 19 May 2006 (EST)
- Indeed, I found a way. Check out Category:Player Fan Tags --DNL 07:11, 19 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Page Names
Imagine someone comes onto the site via England 1966. They'll have no idea what the page is about. Can you fix that (and fix similar pages with the same problem)? Thanks! --DNL 05:24, 21 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Page Names
ACTUALLY, IGNORE MY BELOW MESSAGE, YOUR WAY IS BETTER, WE CAN JUST PUT THE DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS FOR Jump Shot FOR EACH SPORT ON THE SAME Jump Shot page.
Please remember that Snooker is not the only sport in this website. Pages like Jump Shot, Ball In Play, and Stroke are used in other sports as well. So on the Jump Shot page it should say: To see, if you are looking for the jump shot in snooker, see Jump Shot (Snooker). And then you should put the information that you now have in Jump Shot into Jump Shot (Snooker). And you should follow the same format for other terms that are used in multiple sports. --Roblefko 14:42, 21 May 2006 (EST)
- Ill fix it for Jump Shot so you see what i mean. --Roblefko 14:44, 21 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Cricket
Done. For future reference, to start a sport, just create the page and put in

I made a minor change to that to make it easier for you to edit it.--DNL 18:12, 21 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Stats
I fixed your stats so they all come in now Pean
[edit] Replies
Leave the cricket grounds as they are, but you may want to put [[Category:Cricket Grounds]] on each page, to categorize the pages. As for the player template, you have to ask Pean. His talk page is at User talk:Pean. That format -- "User talk:Username" should work for everyone, by the way. --DNL 04:06, 24 May 2006 (EST)
[edit] Player Stats
I have those stats boxes specially coded since they are pulling from all kinds of external databases. So, they are all done outside of the wiki. You could always replicate the styles that are used for the stats tables, but i am not sure how familiar you are with HTML and CSS.--Pean 18:40, 30 May 2006 (EST)

[edit] Stats
Hey Alex, i saw your question on DNL's page. You are adding the wrong numbers together. There are 469 registered users right now, so if you are ranked first in edits you get 469 points, second gets 468 points, 3rd gets 467 etc..in your example DJCFLA was ranked 26th in edits so he gets 443 points (or whatever it comes out to), and he was ranked 20th in comments so he gets 437 points...and then you add 467+443 etc.. --Roblefko 02:58, 1 June 2006 (EST)
Hey, yeah those numbers should add up also (if there are no ties). The reason it doesnt add up is probably because one of them are tied with another user. For example, even though DJFLCA is ranked 26th in edits, he may not bet getting 443 points for it if 5 other people are tied for 26th also. So if 5 people are tied for 26th, they would split up (443+442+441+440+439 / 5) between them. Anyway, dont worry about the math. The above method i mentioned earlier works. I hope i was clear. --Roblefko 06:02, 1 June 2006 (EST)

No can do. Pages are categorized by their page name. You may want to make the historical trck a subsextion of the current track's page, though. --DNL

See if you can figure out how to do it -- you're getting pretty good w/the wiki stuff -- and if you have troubles, I'll help. As the site grows, we're going to need to rely on more people to understand wiki language, and core users who know how to do it will be invaluable to the community. I'm pretty sure you'd like to be part of that core, so this is a good way to learn. Agreed? --DNL 16:48, 21 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] England
Hey Alex, I set up a page for Canada. It only deals with canadian sports and canadian teams..i think its a good idea if you did that for england with english sports, teams, etc....look at my Canada page to get an idea of how it can be structured, and let me know if you want help.. --Roblefko 18:39, 21 June 2006 (EST)
To answer your questions:
1)
whatever you put in the category= field is what you haev to put in double brackets on the player's page. So in your case, since i see you wrote "Players born in England" , you would need to put [[Players born in England]]. Feel free to switch it to "English born players" if you want, its up to you.
2) There can be a game recap section for english sports..you would set it up in the same format as the left side of the english page when you typed in all the english sports in the Catgory= field. You would create a new page called English Game Recaps or something, and in the Category= field you would type in Snooker Game Recaps, Soccer Game Recaps, etc...
3) you can set it up for ireland, scotland, etc..but it doesnt seem like we have any users that would work on those sections, but its up to you.
4)i fixed the problem with the widths..
5) oh, and yes, the count= determines how many are displayed..put in whatever number you want.
--Roblefko 03:27, 22 June 2006 (EST)
width fixed --Roblefko 05:15, 22 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] Voting
Alex, no it is not me. My comment yesterday asking if you were new here was a joke that you obviously missed -- i was referring to your comment about how you couldn't believe that the conversation starting with one thing ended up in a big discussion about something else -- hence, me asking if you were new (maybe its a US joke). I can take a look at the scoring tonight, but i am not sure if i feel comfortable telling you who did it. most likely, if we do find an offender (which we will since annon fanactics can't comment vote anymore) we will let them know privately if we feel they are doing something wrong. Pean 11:25, 22 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] Page Renaming
You can do it yourself. Use the "Move" link at the bottom of the page. --DNL 14:03, 22 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] Hall of Fame
Yeah, that may be a good idea. Maybe if we see how it looks, then we will be able to tell if itll work well. Draft up a sample so we can play around with it. Dont make it an opiniopn yet, bc we dont want other people to see it. Use these pages to create them: User:Alex Holowczak/Draft1, User:Alex Holowczak/Draft2, User:Alex Holowczak/Draft3 --Roblefko 05:50, 23 June 2006 (EST)
I couldnt help but take a quick look at Draft1 to see what you were doing, and i noticed two vote boxes. Remember, we dont haev that technology. Notice, if you click on the vote button, itll only change the vote for one of the boxes. So we need to make this project with only 1 vote box per page.. --Roblefko 06:06, 23 June 2006 (EST)
Thats not such a good idea, bc then in the long run , everyone will make the Hall of Fame. If we se tthe hall of fame at 1,000 votes, for example, then someone like Babe Ruth will make it after 1,005 people see the page, and someone else where 9,000 people dont want him in, and 1000 people do will eventually make it after 10,000 people see the page.. I thought your first post on my talk page made sense, 1 page for pros and cons, one page with a vote box for yes, and naother page with a vote box for no...thats why i left 3 draft pages for you to make a sample, so we can see how it looks... --Roblefko 06:23, 23 June 2006 (EST)
Give me a day or two and let me think about how we can link the vote pages --Roblefko 13:28, 23 June 2006 (EST)

[edit] NHL Stats
Well, it depends: does Madproof have access to a database of stats that go into the tables automatically, like the way we do stats for basketball/baseball/etc.? If so, I like the tabled formatting. If not -- meaning we have to manually enter the data in html table format -- then I'd much rather copy/paste stats from hockeydb.com, it would be much less of a pain in the arse. It's really not my call, though... - Davis21wylie 16:47, 24 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] Anaheim Mighty Ducks moved
Cool, thanks, I didn't know if since it was a team page it had to be moved special or anything, cuz there wasn't an "edit" on the main page, just a "source" button. I'll write something about the name tomorrow sometime.
- Haha, more like still awake. it's about 3:30, I usually work at 5 a.m., so I sleep during the day, like 11 a.m. till 5 p.m., and then work two jobs, one at night, one at 5 a.m. EAK (aka Madproof9) 01:43, 25 June 2006 (EST)
- I just saw this, all the Opinions, News, Game Recaps, etc. links at the top of the Ducks page are still in Red, I dunno if I can fix that or not, or if you could do that too.
- Ok, I have to start heading into work, I'll look into it later today sometime. Madproof9 02:00, 25 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] Hall of Fame
- Let's wait another few weeks until we see whether we can figure out how to get two vote boxes on same page. All the other ideas are O.K. but not as good as two vote boxes, so lets not rush this idea just yet. --Roblefko 03:20, 25 June 2006 (EST)

[edit] English/American Showdown
Hey Alex, don't worry about Fornelli's comments. He overreacted. I think he may have been upset that you created the debate without inviting him beforehand, thereby forcing him to participate. In the future, in order to make sure that the user wants to actually debate, maybe just ask him first on his talk page, rather than just creating the showdown right away. --Roblefko 05:12, 27 June 2006 (EST)
[edit] Hall of Fame
Right now, Pean cant focus on the two vote boxes, because he is in the middle of other technology/programming issues. So you can either wait it out (at least another few weeks, possibly more), or think of some other way to do the hall of fame (which will probably be less user-friendly), so its up to you. I had an idea though. Maybe we can somehow combine the showdown feature with the hall of fame. Here's an example. We pick 16 players. 16 users. Each user picks one player. We have a 16 person tournament. e.g. if i have Babe Ruth, you have Paul Moliter, Pean has Mickey Mantle, DNL has Barry Bonds, etc... me and you would enter into a debate over who is more dserving to make the hall, presumanly i would win with Babe Ruth so i would advance to the next round. Pean would beat DNL with Mickey Mantle, so Pean would advance to the next round, then i would debate Pean, and lets say i win with Babe RUth, so i adavnce to the semifinals, etc...out of the 16 players, 4 rounds, 1 winner, that player makes our "hall of fame"...anyway this idea isnt perfect bc it will be limitless, every tournament someone would make the hall and so inevitably after 1000 torunaments, we'd have 1000 players and so on..so we gotta refine it, but thats the starting point...what do u think? --Roblefko 18:48, 27 June 2006 (EST)
- Pean has to program it for this site and may not have the time for that specific thing for a while. He is working on other stuff, like redsesigning the main page, and a few other important things --Roblefko 03:00, 28 June 2006 (EST)

[edit] Playing Rugby
Ive been playing in American since 2001 when I got to college. I used to play eightman and flanker, but now I spend more time as a second row now that Ive moved up in divisions. When I was in Ireland I played number 8 all the time.
Yeah there is a major league here in the USA. Its the Super League, its also the league I play it. Its still not a pro league but its the highest level of club rugby we have. Id love to help you out with a Rugby page for here. I have solid knowledge of rugby on the international scene. I also have two club mates who start for the US Eagles and my ex coach is the new Eagles ass't coach so basically I can help with the US side of stuff for sure.
[edit] News/Opinion
News article must have some sort of source listed, even if it is rudimentary. For example, I've written Red Sox recaps where the only source was "NESN Telecast". If you relate facts from a neutral point of view (i.e., Wikipedia's NPOV standard), there should be some sort of source, even if it is a vague one. If it's an opinion that uses facts, you don't need a source, but usually if I use statistics or a quote in an Opinion I put in a note of the source using the following format: [http://www.url.com/article.html], which becomes [1] - unless the statistic is such common knowledge that a source is unnecessary, like "Barry Bonds is number two all-time in home runs."
The standard of using sources in Opinion articles is a personal one, not site policy, but the division between News and Opinion articles is site policy. One of the things AGM needs to do better is organize and publish its policy, so these kind of things are more clear.

For future reference, nobody should touch any draft article that's a subset of your user page (i.e. User:Alex Holowczak/ArticleTitle). If that happens again please let me know and I'll have a discussion with the offending user about it. As on Wikipedia, a user's namespace is largely their own to do with as they wish. Hey, as i mentioned earlier, we wont be having it for a while. Pean, who does our programming, is working on many other things to improve the site, and the two vote boxes is a big project which isnt at the top of his priority list (he's currently working on many cool functions which will be released over the next few weeks and which will make the site much beter). You should try and find another way using our current capaabilities to set it up. Sorry if i mislead you into thinking that it would be ready soon. --Roblefko 08:17, 7 July 2006 (EST)
- Cool, set it up, and lets see how it looks. To sort by most votes, you can copy the code from Top Pages.
- There is no way to use comments +/- to accomplish this. The "most votes" will order the pages by most votes using the vote box score (not the comments +/- score). And if you use the +/- score, you wont be able to sort them in oder in a different page. The only thing u can do (i can set it up) is have it ordered by most votes using the vote box (which means a person wont be able to vote negatively). I really think we should just wait it out. There's no point of setting this up when there are a lot flaws to how itll work. Youve come up with good ideas before and youll come up with more in the future. I say we just be patient with this one, and wait a couple of months. If you really want this up and running, you can set it up using just the one vote box, but as you recognized, it has many flaws.

Good luck, not that you'll need it. He knows he can't be you. I can't get in on it myself (besides, that would be unfair), but I'm sure you'll find the flaws as easily as I can. After all, how can non-European nations be "token" successes when half of the World Cups have been one by South American nations (5 Brazil, 2 Argentina & 2 Uruguay - 9 out of 18)? --Thecrookedcap 19:20, 8 July 2006 (EST)

I think it's a great idea, I'd be happy to do it. I'm at work right now, just checking into my account, so I don't have much time right now to look into it, but I just wanted to let you know I'm down to do it, I'll message you again later when I have more time and we'll figure out all the details. [edit] Snooker Encyclopedia
Hey, I just took a look at it. I cant convert it into the same format as my other sports because to be in the same format it needs to be in categories. The snooker seasons need to be put into [[Category:Snooker Seasons]] , the championships into [[Category:Snooker Championships]] etc.. (you did it fine for Players and Venues, but most of the other ones need to be in categories for my format to work).
- ok, check it out, I think i included everything, let me know if i left out anything.
- yeah, ill add the snooker encyclopedia to the top menu now...i dotn remember who made them either, but it wasnt me...if yuo want to see who made a page, just click on "page history" at the bottom of the page. that'll show you all the previous edits that were made to the page. --Roblefko 05:08, 14 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Fantasy Football
- Hey, sorry for not responding, but I like the idea. As I said, it will be done on Yahoo! Sports, as yahoo is free to play. If you give me a date I can set up the league and if you're able to, let's try to round up a few more armchair gm'ers for the league. Sound good? --Ufgators
- Okay cool, I'll write up an article later today about fantasy sports, and propose a column for fantasy sports in general. Good luck with the F1 article!
- Oh man, it is a big project, how long have you been working on it? Yes, suggest it to Roblefko if you'd like. I wonder, though, if that would make any other fantasy sports articles off-limits (in principle) to other users?? All I know so far is that I'm writing the "Rant" column, which will probably be on Thursdays.
- okay buddy, I posted an article for our fantasy league. IF you have anything to add, then by all means edit the article.
- Alright, to sing up for the league, go to www.yahoo.com. now, go look at the top of the main page, it should have a link for fantasy sports. (If you don't have a user id for yahoo, you need to sign up and make one). After you've signed up and clicked on fantasy sports, there should be a big banner for fantasy football, and click on that. NExt, click on "join custom league" under the "free leagues" section on the right hand corner of the page. the League ID#: 200497...
League Name: ArmChairGm Allstars...Password: acgm...i hope i explained it well enough. if u have any questions, just send me a message!!
- oh gee, okay. Now when you type in your yahoo id, make sure its all in lowercase letters, NOT UPPERCASE!! Also, you don't have to put "yourname@yahoo.com" for example, in the user id, but rather, just "yourname" in the id box. the password must be lowercase, too. i will be away for most of the day, so if there are any complications, contact dnl. i will notify him about your problem.
- okay youre all signed up, youre in the league, and heres the link: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/200497
i will edit all of you team info and your name and everything like that. ill explain it all later, but your yahoo account is now set up as well. check it. i have to go, iwill talk to you later, and i will change draft date.

[edit] Re:Indianapolis 500
I'd be fine to add them, but I need to make a few style changes. We don't do box scores like Formula 1 does. I've done some adjustments on 2006 Indianapolis 500 as a demo. I can't do it just like yours though, since it's very foreign to me and wouldn't adapt well to American results. Thecrookedcap 10:02, 14 July 2006 (EST)
- I get what you're saying for inconvience. It's just a cultural thing that's all. Teams are of minor importance, so I took them off in favor of engine and chassis. All teams are placed, no matter if they finish or not. It may be wise, however, to do Indy stuff more like my way. After all, only 10 Indys are F1 races. I'd be willing to work on them if you please, so you do not have to have any hassle. Thecrookedcap 10:16, 14 July 2006 (EST)
- That's fine. If I do other F1 races, they'll be in that format, but Indy will be different. Thecrookedcap 10:24, 14 July 2006 (EST)
- I'll add a points column for those races. Shared drives are no problem, since I'll have to deal with them for other 500s (even as recently as '04).Thecrookedcap 11:05, 14 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Premiership
Alex, I have yet to have a look at the Premiership website you've recommended. I will do so today. I would love to participate in the fantasy league, so please leave me a note on my userpage with how to go about that.
Additionally, I plan on writing an article about the Premiership today. Some general background on each team. Hopefully it can be used as a guide for which teams to root for, kind of a 'English Premiership for dummies (Americans)'.
As far as the quiz, I will be participating tomorrow. Thank you for the reminder. Patrickburke1980
alex, please have a look at my user talk page. as you'll see, i'm in the middle of putting together a rather large article on the english premiership. I am using this as a guide for americans to get interested in the league. however, there are certain teams and thing I don't know. I was hoping to enlist your help, if you don't mind. by no means am I asking you to finish this article, but any help would be appreciated. I'd be happy to jointly submit this article with you.
please let me know what you think. --Patrickburke1980
Alex, that sounds like a great plan. I will try to finish this article today. The added input of best players, coaches, etc. would be very helpful. Thank you. -Patrickburke1980
[edit] F1 Stuff
I was just working on a few templates that might make navigation a bit easier. One is for year-by-year results of a particular race (see Template:British Grand Prix), which I would probably put at the end of the page (as I have with my Indy 500 one, see here. The other is a full season template, which could be placed either at the top or bottom. The template is here. Let me know what you think. I think they look better, and will make editing a little easier. Thecrookedcap 09:40, 16 July 2006 (EST)
- I concieved for the GP template to go at the bottom of each individual page. For example, the British GP temp would go on the '50 GP, '51 GP, etc. It wouldn't go on the overall British GP page as that would be redundant.
- As for the season template, how about this one: Template:1950 Formula One Season 2? Thecrookedcap 10:15, 16 July 2006 (EST)
- Should I use the one with the flags (Template:1950 Formula One Season) or one without flags? Thecrookedcap 10:27, 16 July 2006 (EST)
- I can't figure out a way for the image to link to something other than its page, so it will need to have the text. Thecrookedcap 10:44, 16 July 2006 (EST)
- Worth asking.
- I used the British GP since there's always been one. It's easier to subtract than to add. Thecrookedcap 10:57, 16 July 2006 (EST)
[edit] Image question
If you go to the image's page, you can get the absolute URL of the image, e.g. http://www.armchairgm.com/mwiki/images/7/74/MiniUnitedKingdomFlag.jpg<nowiki> for the one you mentioned. Click the image -- that brigns you to the image's page. Then click the image's name, in this case, MiniUnitedKingdomFlag.jpg. That'll show you the URL. Then, use the single-bracket link format to link the URL you want to the image's URL, i.e. <nowiki>[http://www.armchairgm.com http://www.armchairgm.com/mwiki/images/7/74/MiniUnitedKingdomFlag.jpg]. My name at the top of the list over yours is merely a sign of my ability to produce mindnumbing volume and quantity, not sweet, sweet quality. I have been trying to practice editing more and commenting less, so hopefully my stay at the top is short lived. I just finished doing the Washington Club history, have to say Im a bit bias so that will be the longest one.
[edit] Keep it up
Hey I just wanted tos ay keep up the good work. I love the fact that Rugby has made it onto ArmchairGM for the past few days in a row and generated a lil discussion. Its efforts of this nature that will help to grow the sport in America. Oh yeah its not OMBAC, its Old Mission Beach Athletic Club, Pac does not need the AC at the end of their name because its Potomic Athletic club, NYAC is New York Athletic Club and I think thats it, let me know if you need anything else.

[edit] draft
- hey, sorry for getting back to you so late, but the draft will be next week. it is a time that works for most people so we went with it. you can sign in to your yahoo account and edit the order in which you would like to draft players, if in the event you wont be able to attend. if u have any more questions, dont hesitate to ask. Ufgators
- haha, okay so were you able to access the league? If in the event you can't attend the draft (which i made as early as possible, to try to accommodate all the armchair users around the U.S. and yourself as well) then it will automatically draft for you. no worries! Ufgators
- well i made it early as possible, as i said before to accommodate the many time zones around the u.s.! so the league starts drafting at 3pm eastern time. the link that you saw was one that dnl made up, as we were originally going to do an offline draft but abandoned that idea. in any event, the password is acgm, and the league id number is 200497. the name of the league is ArmChairGm Allstars.
- alex, thats because you are already in the league. just SIGN IN TO YAHOO with your username and password. remember you wanted me to sign in for you and sign up for the league? well, youre already in. so just click "sign in" on yahoo, and once you're signed in on yahoo, then you can just click the link for the league.
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/200497
if you are signed in to your yahoo account, then the link will work. if you arent signed in to your yahoo account, then the link will say you arent allowed to view the league. ps. you need to archive your talk page!!
- oh im glad it worked. im glad you got to the three column screen. the middle screen is a list of players, which can be sorted by clicking--at the top of the columns-- "show-" and you can click 25 players, 100 players, all players, etc. the right column is where your list is for the players you want to draft. obviously, you wont be able to get all the players there, but it gives the computer an idea of your strategy and will try its best to get the players you want, in the order you want. so when you see a player you want in the middle list, highlight his name, and click the arrow associated with the column (if you want to add him to the list of players you want to draft, then click the right arrow). the left column is the list of players you want the computer to avoid. say, for example, you dont like tom brady, then you would highlight his name and click the left arrow and he will show up on the left column! if all else fails, read the help section. Ufgators
better yet, if the clicking arrows thing is too confusing, i believe you can highlight a guys name and drag the name to the appropriate column (exclude column, or your players list column)
- any time. oh, i would say about 150. if you dont want to do that many, then just highlight two hundred names on the middle column and drag them all to the right column! but 150 should be sufficient enough. here is a post written by someone on the league page:
here is a little help with pre ranking. you need to do the top 100 (at the least) possibly more players. i have found that doing top 100 or more ensures you that you get a decent pick each round. put the players you want the most near the top but not at the top of the list because everyone else will probably have picked them by that time. also any players you wish not to draft or just don't want keep them off your list even putting them at the bottom you will end up getting them.and your pre rankings list mix it up. have the first 5 like QB's but mix the next 15 or so with TE,RB,WR and QB. i have done a few where i just mix up the whole bunch of players moving good guys down a little further and just keeping my pre-rankings really mixed up.

- im not sure what you mean? what big gap? --Roblefko 05:13, 21 August 2006 (EST)
- sorry, im still a bit confused..under Opinions, it has the heading good stuff and new stuff and then directly under that the opinions will show up, where do you want the opinions to show up?...anyway, on a side note, i thought of a better looking design foro player pages which you may like: here's an example: Bryan Cupito. Note how the opinions and news show up on top.
- ok, keep your style. i was just suggesting another one, you dont need to use it. As far as fixing your problem, i cant really help you with that because on my computer it looks fine, there is no gap. If you want to fix it, its probably a problem with the stats box template. Template:F1 Driver. there's probably some code on the top (with all that margins, floating, width etc..) that causes the problem. you can probably try and figure out what the problem is by erasing aprts of that code, and seeing what works..also ill do the encyclopedia for you, but not this week. im busy setting up college football section since the season starts next week. but ill do the encyclopedia for you in a round a week and a half. --Roblefko 06:32, 21 August 2006 (EST)

Hey do you want to put up a basic rules and cover sevens rugby or do you want me to do it? Ill say right now I wont do it justice cause I dont consider sevens real rugby, thats why I play League during the summer and not Union.
[edit] More Rugby
Sounds good take your time with it, and Ill start working on some stuff also. Ill admit Im not as affluent in international rugby as you are, being a new comer to the game (6 yrs experience now). Im still working on the Super League Team historys and should wrap that up in the next week or so, also want to do a break down of the American Divisions. Sorry I really want to use this rugby platform here to help grow Rugby in American. I was at a tourney all weekend and saw so manynew and young faces out there watching the sport, and I see the talk our articles generate here, so Im really looking to push the fact that there is rugby in the USA its not some cult, and we are activily seeking athletes who want to play.
You are right about that. For any of your rugby infomation, check out RugbyRugby.com. It has international rugby from every major nation in the world. Its where I get most if not all my info, it also has the official Law book for all of rugby union and is where Im getting those laws from. Also for USA rugby history you can go to USA Rugby.org but it can be a little sketch in how far back it goes.
Sounds good. I had not check how far back RugbyRugby goes, but glad to know. Ill keep my eyes open for more rugby history.
[edit] AGMVC idea
I think it's a good idea, kind of like the ESPYs for AGM. However there would be a problem with it. Football, college football, and the NBA would all be in season at the time which would make the voting harder. I like the idea, it just needs some refinement. jgov05

[edit] madden
hey! how is the game by you? i recall you saying you had to pay more for it, which i guess is inevitable. the article was published on many, many blogs though, so im pretty happy about that! Ufgators
- hey, good questions. with this league, trades are limited to players only, and they are AFTER the draft. and the 17 week schedule...there are really 17 weeks to an nfl season, even though teams only play 16 games. remember that there is a bye week in which a particular few teams dont play, so it all evens out to a 16 game season, with one week as a bye, hence the 17 weeks of football. for us, there are no bye weeks...thus we play 17 games. the number of teams in the league doesnt matter. any thing else? :) Ufgators
- yeah, you are going to play some teams twice. others in the league include bobbyjim, dnl, i am a cpcp, and...others! i dont remember them all. um...yes i am going to do a weekend in review. i've always done it so this year will be no exception. i usually post it on the league page, though. if you want ill post the weekend in review on armchair as well.
- okay for sure, i'd appreciate it! Ill keep the link on my user page and then i'll fill it in on saturday evening after the draft! you rock alex

I think I finally figured this out, courtesy of roblefko (or something like that). Thanks for the invite to the fantasy league, but I don't put enough into those to stay on top of it.
[edit] great job
thanks for filling out the table. i was extremely busy yesterday, thus i wasnt able to access a computer and fill out the table. i added your name to the article, so we can both get credited with the article. Ufgators
- no way alex! jeramy stevens is injured, Betts will take the backseat to clinton portis when he is back. plus, domanick davis alone scored more points than stevens and betts combined!
- sure...although it is really hard to folllow a basketball fantasy season! anything you need me to do ill do it, though. Ufgators
- i dont know muchabout hockey, though, alex. and basketball/baseball is really hard to maintain as you must keep up with the lineups every day...

[edit] I know I'm lazy, but WHAT took me so long???
I wanna take you on in chess sometime, but I'm scared. You got some O!F on the tiles! And I am REALLY wanting to try snooker sometime! Maybe I can be the first American great snooker player - or the First American snooker player for that matter... hee, hee
Love your work man!
As far as who I read and enjoy the most, YOUR fan box should have been the first one I made! (I got ya right next to Roy Jones on my page... (the box is kinda crappy, so feel free to adjust it as you see fit - I want it to represent you properly!)
I just wanna play snooker for the snazzy outfits!!! (I might have to dress my 1 and 3 year-olds as a snooker and a cricket player for Halloween!)
[edit] A guy nicknamed "Spaceman"??
I love it! Sounds like my kind of guy, all flavo(u)r, little O!F!!!
Thanks, I will definitely add a snooker fanbox, if you make it pretty!
Yesterday, I was in a store that had billiards tables, I asked the sales guy if they had snooker tables or balls and he looked at me like I had a conjoined twin stuck to my head. I'm gonna do this more often, me thinks!
I do have 2 Draft-Only FFL's going but they is more non-armchair participants than armchair members. Participation from ACGM was low, so I got a bunch of my stockbroker co-workers and friends to join... still have some openings if you want to join the easiest FFLs ever. Friskysman has a draft-only league too, damned copycat: of course I joined that one, too! =)
I've been shoving Armchair down people's throats ever since I joined! Alot of the Anon's lately have been friends of mine, which is why I ALWAYS state that I won't vote for Anons... make 'em sign up! You should see some of them join soon, I'm wearing them down! My one buddy has crazier sports stories than me! (but I spell WAY better than him, so I told him, I'd help him edit)
I have 2 drafts today, so I'm out! See if you like my 'soccer' article I posted this morn! Have a great one, Big A!!! The irrepressible one
[edit] Hall of Fame
Thank you! I actually would appreciate some help, especially with the British sports as they are more of your expertise. I really love the idea of a tiered system (i.e. regular HOF, "Ring of Honor", etc. as I mentioned on the update page) but am more curious about what other users want to do and exactly how we want this tiering system to work.
I actually have made a category for the ArmchairGM Hall of Fame members, but would appreciate some help with this. I'm currently working on filling in some profiles for the new Hall of Fame members and don't really have the time to work on the rest. A general ArmchairGM Hall of Fame page with links to the various categories would be fantastic, if you put something like this together.
As to your problem with only allowing one voting box, users can edit their names into two separate yes/no categories; though a little less wikified, it works equally well.
Glad to work with you! --Drpatriot
- That actually makes a lot of sense. I'm going to include all players in the all-sport Hall of Fame for now but will also put players into individual sport hall of fames. Glad you like the graphics. --Drpatriot

Hey Alex. Sorry for not replying earlier, I've been a little busy. About the F1 articles I might have time to do a little but you'll have to tell me what to. Ohh and today the AFL Grand Final is on, that's like the Australian version of the Super Bowl or FA Cup Final, so it's a big day. Ohh and the Fantasy hockey league draft starts in 4 minutes!!! Alex - Even though I think that this was a great idea (posting a question on the main page) but I think that it's becomming more of a problem than what it's worth... either there are multiple pages asking the same question or some of the answers in the comments section are just plain rude if you look back... granted I'm not an admin or have any saying here... but, honestly, I think it might be time to end the question pages IMO... [edit] erroneous comments made about Australia
Yep. In the Victorian Era, it was founded and Britain dumped its' prisoners there. So, in effect most non-aborigonees in Australia are simply decendants of British prisoners.
I suggest that you research this before making wild observations and before I start thinking that English people are ignorant of Australia. Pnatt 11:22, 16 October 2006 (EST)

[edit] Alex!
Sorry if I sounded a bit rough with the Australia comments it's just that it's simply not true that most prisoners are decendents from British prisoners. While it may have been true before Australia is a very multiculural society today. Umm sorry I'm really don't feel like writing articles I think I've shifted my focus to writing comments. Anyway write back about what I said. An arrogant Aussie

I figured I could help the sight more by being "invisible" and enigmatic. But seriously, get back to doing your GOOD work, I don't need attention wasted on me when there's MANNY more things that can use a little AH 'love'... [edit] Indy
I've just been looking around the auto racing stuff, and I've been wanting to do something. I wanted to switch up the configuration that is "Indianapolis Motor Speedway" on AGM. The oval is really IMS. I created an "Indianpolis Infield" page for the F1 track. I hope you don't mind, and it's really such a minor thing, but as a big Indycar fan it means a lot. Thecrookedcap 07:55, 20 October 2006 (EST)
[edit] Re:Tracks
I believe I'm within the bounds, since I'm using it for NASCAR configurations. Thecrookedcap 08:54, 20 October 2006 (EST)
- There are two reasons I'm making pictures of ovals:
- I wanted some continuity between all the race tracks on AGM, so they all deserve pictures.
- There are differences; trust me. Aside from the oddball that is Pocono, there are two primary kinds of ovals and I'm showing which one it each track is. It also helps me describe the banking of turns, which comes into play.
Thecrookedcap 09:13, 20 October 2006 (EST)
[edit] Mexico City
That track is currently on my back burner. I am trying to start with Nextel Cup tracks first, so feel free to work on it for now. Thecrookedcap 09:21, 20 October 2006 (EST)
- I'm having troubling finding the bank. It's no big deal, since I added it for oval tracks primarily. And since Mexico City is one of those rare places where a stock car makes a right turn, it is a small detail. Thecrookedcap 10:05, 20 October 2006 (EST)
[edit] Rugby Page
On my computer, i can see all the columns, so its not a problem with the wiki language. Let Awrigh01 or Pean know that the right side of the page is blocked out on your screen. --Roblefko 12:49, 20 October 2006 (EST)
- I can see all of the columns too. I would try to build the page with a 100% width and see if that makes it better. I might also try pressing the control button and refresh, maybe something got cached and the page needs to be refreshed. If that doesn't work, assuming you are using widows, I would right click on your desktop, click properties, then try to increase your resolution. We'll figure it out --Awrigh01 06:08, 21 October 2006 (EST)
[edit] NBA Draft
You're never going to believe this. My power went out about 20 minutes before the draft, and it only now came back on. I'm -- what's the term? -- not pleased. So give me a draft recap, buddy. Who else was there, etc. I still can't believe this happened! - Davis21wylie 11:24, 21 October 2006 (EST)
- NBA '98, that's great! I'm amazed that guys who were good back then (Iverson, Ilgauskas) are still good today. So, yeah, you've got a pretty nice team. For my part, I somehow managed to get Nash/Nowitzki on autodraft, but I still wish I had actually picked my team. Oh, well. It's a shame that my computer was down, sounds like a lively time was had by all! ("all" meaning "you".) Hopefully we can turn you into a full-fledged basketball fan through this... - Davis21wylie 11:52, 21 October 2006 (EST)
- Wow, teletext is weird. I had only barely heard of it before, and we don't have anything like that here in the States. The closest we come is an interactive programming guide that you can call up on your TV via remote control. Teletext... Very odd, yet somehow cool! - I think the easiest way to do that would be to either type spaces, as you suggested, or type "Bye Round" or some other form thereof. Again, feel free to fiddle with the code and create a new version that better suits your needs, if that would work best for you. Xinoph 05:44, 5 November 2006 (EST)
[edit] Fantasy Recap
Hey Alex, do you need any help with the article? Pnatt 05:59, 5 November 2006 (EST)
[edit] Playoff Brackers
Playoff brackets for what sport? If NBA (or any other 16 team playoff format), you can find it here Roblefko's 2006-07 NBA Predictions.
[edit] Snooker Players
You sure? Youll also then have to go and change the categories all the opinions are in. For example, on the bottom of this page: Mark Allen (Northern Ireland) it has his opinions show up. Once we move the page to Mark Allen, youll also then have to go and switch the opinions to "Category:Mark Allen Opinions"...You sure you want me to move the pages knowing that? --Roblefko 10:32, 5 November 2006 (EST)
[edit] Excel
Yeah, that's exactly what I do. I select the cells that I want to put into the article, then copy and paste them to Notepad. From there, I go through and make sure that the columns are all aligned properly -- sometimes player names are too long, and they screw up the formatting. Once I get it looking nice in Notepad, all I have to do is "select all", and copy/paste to AGM. Remember to put the <pre> and </pre> tags around your table, though. I hope that helped... - Davis21wylie 11:36, 11 November 2006 (EST)
- Sadly, wiki markup (i.e., the double brackets) doesn't work when you're in <pre>, so you can't link to the names. If you put it into an html table (like I did for the GT basketball team), you can link, but the code gets pretty messy if it's a big table. If you really want your table to have links, try Google searching for a program that converts excel to an html table; I haven't had much luck with those in the past, and the resulting code will almost certainly give you one of those "WARNING: This page is 36 kilobytes long" messages, but it might be worth a try if you want links. - Davis21wylie 12:09, 11 November 2006 (EST)
[edit] Been Busy
Sorry... I'm swamped w/a ton of stuff. It may be a while before I can address concerns. For images and stuff, tho, ask Pean?--DNL 19:41, 14 November 2006 (EST)
[edit] Table
You can do whatever you like, making the table bigger messes up the top bar, that the only reason why I changed it. --12:59, 19 November 2006 (EST)
[edit] Cricket
I'll give it a try. After Christmas, maybe? I went to the Cricinfo site the other day, but I'm sorry to say that I couldn't make heads or tails of the stats they have! :( But I'll definitely read up on whatever sources (Wikipedia, etc.) you would suggest for a cricket newbie. Baseball vaguely descended from cricket, right? Maybe that will make it easier for me to understand. Anyway, I think it's an interesting idea, and I'd certainly be willing to give it a shot. Let me know what background reading I should do to ease my way into an understanding of the sport... - Davis21wylie 12:00, 18 December 2006 (EST)

Hey Alex -- right now there is no way to choose the image that gets on the front page..it still will pull any image that might appear on there (any image using wiki format that is)
By the way, I had to change your article about the Denver guy getting shot, because it was just copied and pasted into the page. You can redo it as long as its in your own words. Thanks and Happy New Year! Pean 10:03, 1 January 2007 (EST)

Hey, good catch. Ill try and get around to the rosters. With regards to Wikipedians, its not a good idea, the admins will probably end up blocking us for spamming their users. --Roblefko 20:08, 1 January 2007 (EST)

I'm going to reject your your challenge, but offer a new challenge with "slight" modifications... in a bit. I'm not sure I benefit much from whooping you chess then having you do something fun like a Red Wings page...
Plus I wanna check out Yahoo chess before we go at it, but I definitely look forward to it! I'm the man, you the Manny
[edit] CFL Fantasy League
This will be the first fantasy league that I am running. I don't know all the parameters of the league just yet. So, I don't know if it is going to be a ACGM Fantasy League. I offered to Manny because he was kind enough to let me in on his league last year. If I have room, I will definitely let you know. I am not going through yahoo, as my computer has some difficulties with the site. More than likely, I will be going through Fantasy Sports Network.Erooster 15:57, 5 January 2007 (EST)

Sorry to reject you, but I'm not supporting the rise of NASCAR crap on this site =)
[edit] Favre Challenge
I am cool with the challenge, except for the Patrick Roy request (I can't stand the guy). Instead of writing a article on Roy, I want you to write an article in support of Ron Hextall being inducted into the hockey hall of fame. If you are cool with that, the challenge is on.

[edit] Chess Match of the Century

[edit] PLease Refresh My Memory
What time am I beating you tomorrow? Can you get back to me with GMT? I'm seven hours behind/yet earlier in the day than you, so if I gotta wake up at 6am (1pm your time) to do this, I'm gonna be extra cranky and extra motivated to kick your ass swiftly (or lose with top notch reckless abandon - Goooo Cricket!).. hee hee Just a pawn in the game of life, but I dress like a Queen... wait that didn't come out right
[edit] I do remember
You said anytime before 3pm EST, which is 1pm to me... I'd like to do it much earlier if possible (I have some tattoo work to get done), anytime after 7am my time is suitable, (9am EST = 1pm GMT if I'm not mistaken) Yes, I know everyone uses UTC, not GMT now but I'm old school... We'll meet on the hour, get comfy and let the game roll from there... I'll set a "running Blog" page up on the 'chair and we'll coordinate info there.
I am excited to play my first intercontinental match!
(I'm not tagging this with my name)
[edit] I'm on Mountain Time, not Pacific
Yeah, to further confuse you, Arizona does not observe "daylight savings time" so we're 2 hours behing New york half the year (we're currently 2 hours different), 3 hours behind the other half.
But yeah, 7 hours behind you currently. 10am my time would = 5 your time!
That's fine, we can go earlier if you want, but 10/5 is perfectly acceptable!
My yahoo name is "Theowies". We'll meet on the chair in the so-called running blog, you can find a room and post it (so others can watch) then we'll have at it...
(it's gonna be harder to get all of this arranged than playing the actual match!)
Life is a chess match to me, homie!
[edit] See, that's why I like you...
You're on top of your isht. I'll be on bright and early tomorrow warming up my horsies, bedposts and castles. I might put the "running blog" up so I can pre-game hype and talk trash, get people "into it". Then tomorrow we can roll up our sleeves and begin the first ArmchairGM Chess World Championship.
Get back at me with a "Wresting Style nickname" to add to the drama. I'm either going with Manny "Queen Me" Stiles "One Tough Rook-ie" or "The Checkinator"
side note: I hurt myself filming an ArmchairGM "commercial" today! I'm such an idiot sometimes (here's where you say "sometimes?")
Anyway, I'll hit up Yahoo! tonight to make sure my settings, etc. are up to par. I can't tell you how truly excited I am to play chess - I haven't played a live, non-random person in over a decade, everyone's afraid of my isht-talking. I don't care if I win or lose, I just hope we don't stalemate. And I am truly honored to have at it with the honorable and esteemed, You!
Good luck, Big A... get some rest tonight ;D
[edit] Mega Bowl
Hey I want to get on the Maga Bowl of Chess ladder, can u tel me how?
[edit] Sorry about the mess
My bad on making Mega Bowl of Chess such a big deal. Sasha should be up on the rankings with me since we agreed to a match as a challenge well before the inaugural Mega Bowl event took place. I gotta play him first! I think he should be 2nd, I should be 3rd... it's only fair.
You beat me now everyone wants some of that action!
[edit] About that...
The Cricket article is a touchy issue right now. I'm gonna write it definitely, but the timing of the whole issue sucks. I am doing a charity event soon concerning baseball and I don't want to trash baseball then try to strum up charitable donations based on my love of baseball. I was originally planning on writing it after the Super Bowl, just to let the whole football buzz go away and lend to Spring Training baseball. then I decided to go ahead with an idea I've been sitting on for too long.
I chose the theme because I wanted to do it anyway (expect it to be drenched in humor and sarcasm, but coherent nonetheless)
I know this doesn't make much sense right now, but I will definitely get the article posted eventually. Just be patient with me as I squeeze it in discreetly with all the other crap I've started! Me
I could have saved myself some trouble by just beating you in chess...

Im sure you have been watching the Tourney so far. I dont get to see all the games over here, but Ive made sure to catch my Irish both times so far. I cant believe what happened to them on Sunday. I wanted that win bad over the French. SO whats up with the English? Is there anyone on that squad besides Johnny who can play? BigPPup
Yeah, I think England vs. Ireland is going to be great. That will be a big one for my club here. As I am the only Irish supporter on my club, trying to keep off our English recruits. Italy has looked a lot better than I thought they would. I like the French a lot. But after their squeak out performance against IReland on Sunday, I think England may be able to take them.

The USA earned a shield at the World Cup 7s tourney in San Diego this past week. Tui Osbourne (my teammate) put down a try in the last game against Portigual. Also P.J. the scrumie for the USA team (and one of USA's newest brightest stars at 19) is another one of my teammates and will be playing some Scrumhalf adn winger for us come the Super League season in March BigPPup
[edit] Close
The Shield gave us around sixth or 7th overall. The USA went 3-3 overall, including 2-1 on the final day. Trust me any American who went to the games knows exactly what is going on. It was a solid showing for a 7's side that might have an average age of about 20 or 21. 7's will be the way that the USA breaks into Rugby on the IRB scene. BigPPup
Ouch. Thought they finished better than 13th. Not bad though, I will take it as a start. Yes I really do think 7's is where the USA can be great early and often on the international scene. We are built quick paced games. My Club team sponsors an inner city highschool Club team. They competed in teh 7's competion out in San Diego and ahve become oneo fthe top high school 15's teams in the country. P.J. the halfback is from there.

First of all, I wanted to update you on my race report. I had to pick up a second job, so I've had absolutely no time to work on it. My schedule will be easing up dramatically in the next week or two and this race report is at the top of my priority list. I am going to get it done, I'm not going to stick you on it. I just honestly have not had any time.
Second, can you please complete this in my favor? The Browns won the toss earlier this week. I'd appreciate it. Thanks! --I am a cpcp

Hey Alex, will you be okay with a 3:00 EST draft instead of 2:30? Joebook says he doesn't get off work until 2:00, so he couldn't do the draft if we leave it as is. Anyway, just checking with you because of your unique time zone... Thanks. - Davis21wylie 01:55, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

My emephen day was slightly maligned from that point out. Gimme time. I don't want to just do the article to fulfill a commitment, I want it to be good, too.

[edit] Hey
I'm gonna get you to clean you talk page or I'm gonna edit it until you do =D
Alex - you're by far my favorite writer on the site. You are an edit god. I always appreciate your raw, untainted insightfulness in your comments, your articles are written with sheer passion and love for the topic, yet educational and enjoyable for the reader. I don't give a flying you-name-it about being #1 or the rankings;whatever... ArmchairGM is played on wiki, not a secret formula, you know? I'm just not competetive like that. I do what I do because that's what I do (and I'm really quite lazy about it).
I contribute because I've got stuff I'm gonna say anyway and articles I'm gonna write anyway. I'm a little not-right and that's my rite to why I write alright? That being said, I quit my job today to be a stay-at-home Dad, so I'll have a ton of free time all summer long and lots of observations to "talk/write" about. Yes, you will get your cricket article, it will be fantastic and a treasure for generations to come, I'm sure. I'm not avoiding you. I just want you to focus on being the best YOU that you can be and let "manny be manny" and don't gather your image of self-worth based on how you compare to an opinionated whackjob with too many chemical imbalances, a computer and abundant free time.
Just do what you do and don't worry about others feel about it. It's how YOU feel. Time will justify your worthiness, my friend. Be patient, young buck! A guy who shudders when he hears your name and chess in the same sentence

[edit] NHL Challenge
Hey Alex, that sounds like a cool idea. I'll cook a rating up in the next few days, and we should be good to go. You should know something about me: I'm actually a huge (closeted) hockey fan! In fact, I may even be going to see a Thrashers playoff game in the next few weeks, which will be my first NHL playoff experience. I'm pumped! BTW, have you seen my NHL player rankings? They're based on the +/- data at this ridiculously cool site... Some of the results are odd ([[Tom Preissing comes off as one of the best players in the league), but all in all, I think it's pretty cool. Anyway, you're on for this challenge! - Davis21wylie 16:27, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hall of Fame
Yeah, we almost have it on AGM. Here's the idea. If you look at one of our other sites , see http://entertainment.wikia.com/index.php?title=Braveheart for example, notice how we have the 5 star rating box on the right side. I figure if we put those on all the player pages, we can have a Hall of Fame, where if you ahve 4.5 stars or over (or some number we all can agree on), you are in First Tier Hall of Fame, 3.75 or over, you are in Second Tier Hall of Fame, etc.. I'll let you know when we have that 5 star box working. What do you think of the idea? --Roblefko 15:32, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- actually, we'll have it up today. ill keep you posted. :)
- Ok, check out a player page: see Derek Jeter for example on top right. It should be on every player page, because i put it in the Template:Player Profile Box Middle1 page, which I think is loaded into every player page. Feel free to get the project running. --Roblefko 16:02, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- To answer your question of how it is brought altogehter- you can list out all the pages in a certain category (e.g. Category:MLB Players) in order of highest score. See User:Roblefko/DraftHoF for example.
- Feel free to put the voting box in any sport's player pages. Just figure out what template is in all pages, and put it into that template. If not, youll have to do it manually for each player.
- To have a list for ALL sports, you would have to put in all the categories under the Category= field. Category=MLB Players, NFL Players, NHL Players, etc..
[edit] hof
for the listpages field, you can also put "rating minimum = X", so only players that have a certain number of votes will show up..will prevent all the people with 5's who have just one vote Pean 20:52, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- you can put it on any page by putting this template on the page: Template:Hall of Fame Voting. You don't need to put the whole player profile box onto the page. --Roblefko 21:16, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Update
Yep, I finally worked out all of the issues w/ my system -- in fact, I was about to message you, because I added the current rankings here. What are your terms if I lose? If you really want me to do F1 history pages, I'll do them, but I was thinking that since this is an NHL challenge, we should make the spoils of victory involve hockey pages. Here's my proposal: Whoever loses has to do scouting reports (like the one I did on Daniel Alfredsson's page) on each of the Top 20 scorers in the NHL in 2006-07. Let me know what you think... - Davis21wylie 17:58, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, that's fair enough. Your challenge is en route! - Davis21wylie 19:12, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Very funny. We'll do better today -- I've got two pitchers starting this afternoon. - Davis21wylie 19:28, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, just make a draft with whatever you have to say about the matchups, then I'll add my 2 cents, and we'll submit it as a joint opinion. I can't add anything until today's games are completed, though -- I want my formula to use the final season stats. - Davis21wylie 17:14, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Challenge!
It's that time again, do you want to get started on Round 3's predictions? I formatted your page for the 3rd round already, so all you have to do is put your text and "decisions" in the appropriate place. The next round starts on Thursday, May 10, so we've got a few days. BTW, we're still tied, which is ridiculous b/c I called Anaheim over Vancouver all the way, but you got BUF-NYR and DET-SJ in the correct # of games! :( Next time we do this, getting the series right should count more than getting the # of games right, like they do at this ESPN challenge... Oh, well. Good luck in the conference finals! :) - Davis21wylie 04:27, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm finished with my writeups, it's all yours... - Davis21wylie 20:43, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
- Excellent! - Davis21wylie 17:11, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Advice
Sure, I can give you a little advice. Well, BaseballProspectus had him projected for a .299, 78 runs, 8 HR, 62 RBI, 5 SBs. With the way it is going, as you know, he isn't going to even touch those numbers. This is only Freddy's 3rd full season, and his OBPs have been .336 and .378. I'm guessing he will end up with an OBP in between those two numbers, probably closer to .336. That should be good enough to score 65+ runs hitting in front of Jason Bay. He's got Chris Duffy and Jack Wilson hitting in front of him, so he will have VERY few RBI opportunities.
Freddy has been banged up this year, but I think he is fully healthy and that health is not what is wrong. To be honest, luck was very much on Freddy's side last year. He was poking doubles all over the field and his Batting Average on Balls in Play was inflated, at .370. This year his BABIP is at .294. His 2005 BABIP was .308, so he's not far below a normal BABIP.
Sanchez's BB rate is where it normally would be but his K%, while still good, is higher than normal. This means he could be trying too hard or still a little rusty from the time lost to injury. From what I've seen, he hasn't looked as "confident" or "smart" at the plate this year as he did last year. This should be fixed in time.
Sanchez's power is down this year. The biggest reason for this is the fact he is hitting fewer flyballs and line drives, while hitting more groundballs. This is out of the norm, but not by much. That was how he hit before he became a line drive machine last year. So don't expect him to be hitting 50 doubles again.
Early signs are all pointing toward Sanchez reverting right back to where he was in 2005, as opposed to his breakout in 2006. It looks like that .370 BABIP was what made his year last season. If you were expecting last year's numbers, I would know expect something like a .290/ 3 HR/65 R/45 RBI final line. At 2B, there is still room to start him, but if things don't turn around in a few weeks, it will be time to declare last year a fluke, and accept Sanchez for a borderline starter at best.

You are correct, Alex Rios is of Puerto Rican heritage, but was born December, 18, 1981 in Coffee, Alabama.

Yeah , we know, we are working on fixing that. --Roblefko 16:18, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. Also, I don't know jack about F1. If it isn't time consuming I might be interested. I don't have a lot of time between returning to college (why I haven't been around for ever), work, and fantasy baseball. Let me know.

You are right, I'm really into F1. By the way, the F1 Encyclopedia is pretty good. There is a lot of information there. As for writing some of the race reports, I will see what I can do. [edit] Monster
Moral victory, yeah, sure. I just disagree with the system. Maybe if voting for pages (opinions, and such) were worth the 10 points and voting on stars were valued at 1 - 5 points. Don't know how one would change that...
Also, I'm not a big F1 fan, but if I could list Alain Prost, I would.Erooster 20:36, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
- I would list Alain Prost as my favorite (favourite) driver on the profile page, if I could swing it. Although, I believe that he is dead now.Erooster 20:48, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] F1
Back in high school (some 20 years ago), my water polo coach was a big F1 fan. So, we as a team had to watch many races. I know a bit about F1, though my context is a bit dated.Erooster 21:33, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] CFL
My favorite player(s) would be Doug Flutie and Warren Moon.Erooster 04:34, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yep, most notably, Flutie played for the Patriots and the Chargers. He was never a great QB in the NFL (as he is a bit short and couldn't see over the defense) but had the heart of a champion. That heart led him to several Grey Cups in BC, Calgary and Toronto. Moon played for the Titans (then Houston Oilers), Seahawks, Chiefs and Vikings. In Canada, Moon played his entire career for the Edmonton Eskimos from 1978 to 1983 and was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 2001.Erooster 11:42, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Read Ben Graham / Warren Buffett Next
Yo Alex:
I see that you are reading Adam Smith. Good foundational stuff. Next, I would recommend that you read Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett. The topic is value investing. Start with Graham, then move to Buffett. Actually, the best thing to do in regards to Buffett is to read his annual shareholder reports. Here is the link http://berkshirehathaway.com/letters/letters.html.

[edit] stuff
Hey Alex, I fixed a few things for you for now. I added the "Speedway" fan network (the others we will probably have to add later in the week). I also created a handshake award. As for the standings ont he front page, it shows the 3 friends who are above you in points, and the 3 friends who are below you in points (so Manny wouldn't be included in your list if Rob/DNL/Christof are your friends, which they probably are). Pean 13:03, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] voting
to Alex and Erooster
I think you bring up good points about the value of voting/editing, but I disagree about viewing them as not contributing to the site. 12K votes is alot, and almost half of what you can vote on the site. If someone wants to take the time and vote for everything imaginable on the site, I think thats pretty impressive, and they should be rewarded. However, there is a cap there as things to rate run out. We have noticed thats its a good entry into the site though -- hopefully the hardcore voter will turn into an editor/writer/commenter. With that said, we think There definitely needs to be some additional rewards for hard core editors like yourselves. Maybe getting points for certain edit milestones? What do you guys think? [edit] The Fantasy Soccer Msg
Well, I am not sure. I don't have any experience in Fantasy games. They're kind of addicting, and I'm kinda busy with college courses and stuff. So, unfortunately I can't. Sorry. Oh, and about the Dictionary message, don't worry about it. You'll only receive about 10000 dictionary gifts. lol...
Sorry for the late reply...
- Haha. Well, I'm pretty busy this month. During my school year, I don't think I will be. So, if it starts around then, or later, let me know...
- Aight cool. I don't think I'm going to do the soccer one, I'm gonna be VERY busy this entire month. For football, I think I can. How many people do you want joining? I know a couple of friends who might wanna join...
- Oh, well in that case, I'll spread the word. BTW, sorry for being stupid, but is fantasy football like a daily thing?
- OK, I'll see if I can spread the word out. Count me in.
- Yep. Just the football one. But can you tell me when and where to sign up for it?
- Will do. Thanks a lot. 'Preciate it...
