User 71.111's 10 best players in the NFL

In the NFL in the last couple of years there has been a rebirth, gone are the old players who would have surely made this list such as Steve McNair, Priest Holmes, and even Daunte Cullpepper. Howver to replace those spots we have new players like Big Ben, Carsoln Palmer, Larry Johnson and others so in my opinion here are the 10 best heading into this season.

1. Ben Roethlisberger- sure he didn't have the stats that Peyton, Carson, or even Tom Brady had, but he had the trophy and thats what matter, this guy is gonna be great for many years to come

2. Peyton Manning- he keeps on piling up those stats but at this point he already has a reputation as a choker, and unfortunately i have to put him down for that

3. Tom Brady- everyone is in love with this guy and rightfully so but i still don't think he deserves the number 1 spot

4. LaDainian Tomlinson- the most consistent back over the last couple of years he makes defensive backs look slow, what an athlete

5. Carson Palmer- this pick could come back to haunt me if he ends up not recovering from the knee injury, but something tells me he will and be great when he comes back

6. Nick Barnett- now i know people will read this and say Nick who? but this guy has gone under the radar as one of the best middle linebackers in the league he has more tackles that anyone over the last 3 years and his combo of speed and brains make him a rock in the middle

7. Brian Urlacher- another great linebacker from the NFC North this guy headed one of the scariest defenses EVER last year, enough said

8. Marvin Harrison- last year's best wr by default really as Randy Moss and TO were either injured or benched most of the season

9. Antonio Gates- the best TE to come into the league in years, possibly on his way to the superlative as best TE ever

10. Brett Favre- forget about last year, the fact that he threw 20 tds when one of his top 4 recievers was TACO WILLIAMS is pretty impressive, he had no offensive line, running backs, recievers or good coaches to work with, after a coaching overhaul, the rahab of the backs and wideouts, and most importantly a fantastic draft that will all change this year

Barnett is a good addition, but top six... that's rough. And i doubt that 8 of the top 10 are "skill" position players.

Big Ben and Manning over Brady. I know some will say Manning because of his numbers, but who has more rings? Who, despite all the injuries, always gives New England a shot of a championship...Brady. And no, I'm not Boston native, I live in Michigan...maybe its cuz he's from the Big Blue lol. You mention Larry Johnson in your opening paragraph and he's not even in your top ten.

Ben Roethlisberger? Are you joking? He is a role player on his team.

Yeah, I thought the question of the worth of Steeler quarterbacks in the Cowher system was cleared up when Neil O'Donnell took them to a Super Bowl...

I'm not even a big football fan and even I can tell ya that Roethlisberger doesn't deserve to be over Brady and Manning

LJ needs more respect, but how is Sean Alexander not on this list, and how is Roethlisberger even close?

Roethlisberger? Come on. Whether Peyton or Tom is better is debateable, but I've never heard anyone seriously argue Big Ben was better than both. Even if you only consider his first year, it's a stretch.

Though I won't comment on Brady, my obvious pick for #1, I am shocked to see Roethlisberger as #1. Yes, he did win the Super Bowl, but so did Trent Dilfer, and Trent Dilfer played better in the Super Bowl than Roethlisberger. Not to detract from Roethlisberger's abilities as he will be one of the premier QBs in the NFL for the next decade, but he was not the best player in the league this year.

Second, anyone who puts Brett Favre in the top five, ten, twenty, fifty or even one hundred players must be out of their mind. Brett Favre led his team to the #6 seed...in the draft. Along with his 20 touchdowns he threw 26 interceptions, the most from any quarterback in the league. His touchdown-to-interception ratio is worse than Kyle Boller's, J.P. Losman's and Joey Harrington's. Brett Favre may be a future hall-of-famer, but if he played the way he did this year every year, he would be considered a bust, not a hall-of-famer.

Finally, Steve Smith, Chad Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Santana Moss, Keenan McKardell, Hines Ward, Deion Branch and Joey Galloway were all much, much better than Marvin Harrison last year.

Though I do like that you have Urlacher, Palmer and Gates on the list.

"Yeah, I thought the question of the worth of Steeler quarterbacks in the Cowher system was cleared up when Neil O'Donnell took them to a Super Bowl..." Absolutely. Infact the whole QB question was answered with the 200 Baltimore Ravens. Rothlisberger on this list is pretty nuts. Had he not luckily won a super bowl, would he be on this list? And while i'm here, I gotta represent for my guy, Donovan McNabb. He'll be on this list by this time next year. Its to hard to rate these guys all together, but I'll go Palmer at the top. Disregard the injury and he's the best and youngest QB in the league. He'll be on top by 2008 (Baring Brady or someone like Brady winning like 8 more SBs) Steve Smith is the best WR but I gotta respect T.O. and after this season his numbers will be very good.
