My priority in watching, playing, coaching, or writing about sports is understanding sports is meant to be fun. Winning always is more enjoyable than losing, but a team that plays hard and to its ability earns praise.
I like what Warren Buffett said about achieving taking energy, intelligence, and integrity. He added that the first two without the latter are dangerous.
Although I'm a Red Sox, Patriot, and Celtic fan, I haven't been drinking the Kool-Aid to believe that they are either the be-all, end-all or the best at what they do. They're simply the local teams.
Sports heroes are people who care about sports and often about kids. Bob Bigelow, who played at Penn, works with kids trying to improve sportsmanship. Bob Cousy has his priorities straight concerning sports, auctioning off his memorabilia to support his family's education.
Whether they like to be or not, sports celebrities are role models.
Favorite sports books include: Ball Four, Men at Work, Bill James' collected works, and a Sense of Where You Are about Bill Bradley.
