Sports Biography

Joe Book was born to loving parents in the suburbs of Chicago during the blizzard of 1979. I showed signs of being a passionate sports junkie from a young age. When my parents signed me up for T-ball when I was five, I quickly became more interested in keeping the statistics for the team than playing.

Once I realized that sports video games offered the chance to sharpen my skills as an amateur statistician, a new hobby was born. From building leagues using RBI Baseball to keeping spreadsheets of numbers from Tecmo Bowl, the thirst for statistics was being quenched.

I realized early in life that I wouldn't be able to pursue my lifelong dream as an NBA superstar. Although a phenomenal athlete, there was no sport that fit my talents. I was too short and too white to play basketball, even though my 44-inch vertical allowed me to dunk when I was 14. Chronic Asthma kept me from the football field, as drills and practices would be impossible. I staged a brief track career, once high-jumping 6'6" in a practice during my freshman year in high school. I never gelled with baseball, although my softball feats are heroic, and legend in the western suburbs. So what did I turn to?

Writing.

At Bradley University, I began my quest to become the world's best composer of words. I quickly filled another life dream, building a rock band with several close friends. As the primary lyricist for the Scrub All-Stars, I was constantly utilizing my penning skills for the good of the public... or the several dozen folks who recognized any of us.

I took a job with the Peoria Times-Observer as a sports writer, and it immediately paid dividends. I obtained a season press pass for the Bradley basketball team, and attended every game, even though I never wrote an article about them. My job was mainly to capture the little known action in and around the Peoria area. I was on the field when the Peoria Pirates won the Indoor Football League Championship, and I was fortunate enough to do an interview with Elton Brand in the Bulls locker room when they invaded Peoria for an exhibition game.

Once that job dissolved and I graduated college, I continued writing anything that came to my brain, in hopes that someone would care. I was introduced to blogging, and from that came the Fantasy Football websites. Once blogger.com locked me out for unknown reasons, I looked elsewhere...

One sunny day, I received an email from a gentleman, touting the simpleness and friendly forums of a website I had never heard of. He said to visit Armchairgm.com, and see if I liked the setup.

The rest is history...
