PERSONAL BLOG: http://sportsctc.blogspot.com
This fall, I begin college at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, back in the same region where my parents grew up. I've lived my entire life in a suburb outside of Seattle, where I enjoyed frequent access to Mariners games, as well as occasional trips to the Seahawks and Sonics. Most recently, I've enjoyed our new HDTV.
My favorite sports, in order, are baseball, football, golf, basketball, and soccer. I play golf often with my friends, and I'm about a 17 handicap. I just finished up my high school baseball career, where I helped lead my small (now) alma mater to its best record ever. I'm going to play at St. Olaf (Division III).
Though I'm quiet, I've always had many opinions about sports, as my friends and dad can attest. They are one of the most important things in my life. I like math and disliked writing until high school. Then writing suddenly appealed to me as an outlet for the thoughts that I wasn't very good at verbalizing. I signed up for the school newspaper and wrote for the sports section as a sophomore. Then I became opinions editor, and as a senior, editor-in-chief. I always made sure to write a sports column.
But the most important thing I did in high school was heed my newspaper adviser's advice and begin my own sports blog, mostly as a reaction to my beloved Mariners' idiotic PR signing of Richie Sexson and Adrian Beltre. That's how one of the admins on Armchair found me and invited me to this website, where my articles actually get comments and critique. Plus, I get to read your stuff!
As an idealitic young youth, I'm interested in how sports affect our culture and vice versa. I hate steroids. I think sports coverage is blatantly sexist/sometimes racist. I think sports journalists ask awful questions. The list goes on.
I plan to major in English and religion. My primary interest is my Christian spiritual life, which you'd be surprised to know doesn't conflict too much with my passion for sports and actually informs it. I've just begun a blog about that stuff.
