Upton moving on up

In a completely unsurprising move the Arizona Diamondbacks called up top prospect Justin Upton to the major leagues. It had been rumored that Upton was coming since the all-star break but the opportunity had waited to present itself until now with outfielder Carlos Quintin going on the DL with a hamstring injury. Upton, brother of B.J. Upton the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' infielder/outfielder, was drafted first overall in the 2005 draft. Upton, who turns 20 later in the month, had hit .310 with 13 homers and 53 RBI in AA. An outfielder, Upton is expected to man right field for the snakes and the hope is that his call-up will jump start the offense just as the call-up of Mark Reynolds did earlier in the year. Upton will not be in the starting lineup in San Diego today.
