University of Iowa Buys Up Coaches Internet Domains

You know how everybody in their mothers likes to blog nowadays…It’s almost as if, if you’re not blogging, you’re not living! There’s nothing better that gets the mojo running then to go down into a dark basement, wake the computer screen from its sleep, so there’s some light down there, and start pecking away at the keyboard like I’m currently demonstrating. Damn, this white screen is pretty damn bright! This is much more than a fad, for sports enthusiasts, this is our lives…Giving us a way to be heard! Thus is why we’re here…And LastRowSports.com was born. Giving us a place to type out our brain spasms for all to see.

Unfortunately, the University of Iowa is trying to ruin all our fun. The Corn Lovers seemingly had this great idea that they would join in on the blogging revolution that has taken over the sporting genre. The Hawkeyes brass has paid a one-time initial fee of $674.82 for the rights to the seven Internet domains, which includes Firekirkferentz.com….Damn you Corn Lovers! That was my next one to buy! All of this hubbub over domain buying is part of the UI plan to head off or curtail negative Internet chatter regarding prominent athletic department employees. Great idea guys…Gobbling up a whole seven domains to "head off chatter". So while Firekirkferentz.com is being hoarded by you guys, I wonder if FerentzMustGo.com is still available…CanKirkFerentz.com, or, AxKirkFerentz.com is still being offered through GoDaddy or did you buy those up too? One domain that you dudes, (and I do mean dudes) could not get your grubby little paws on, (or should I say wings) was firestevealford.com, which is owned anonymously. Perhaps this is why UI gave New Mexico permission to talk with Stevey boy about the Lobos’ vacancy. What, is that website blowing up too much that you guys can’t take the heat? Or you don’t want some blogger living on a farm in Iowa City to have control over the basketball program.

Is it just me, but somehow I would think a big time, high profile university such as yourselves would have bigger and better things to be worried about? Shouldn’t you people be concerned about the harvest? I mean, personally I’m flattered that my blogging abilities can have this sort of affect on people…I wonder if there’s a little girl’s diary some where in Des Moines asking and writing the same things? You going to start raiding their bedrooms in hopes of finding it? Here’s some hints if you do…Check under the bed, under the mattress, in the top dresser drawer, or the nightstand. I don’t how I know that for sure…I just have a hunch.

For Ferentz or anybody else to be under the gun by bloggers is completely asinine! By doing this, paying a one-time initial fee of $674.82 for the rights to the seven Internet domains just goes to show us that no matter where it is…At any big-time university no one has the onions to stand on its own two feet. Thanks for once again showing the nation that at big time universities, it’s really the boosters, fans, and now bloggers running them! Forget administrating backing, there’s no better way to support coaches when their britches warm then buying up all the .coms, .nets, and whatever else Go Daddy offers! "We're simply attempting to protect an institutional staff member from today's environment," associate athletic director of external affairs for the school, Rick Klatt said. Protect them from who…Us, who are in a dark basement pecking on the keyboard? Is that the environment you’re speaking of, Rick? Yeah, I can really see one should be concerned over job security and how it would come into question. I’m just guessing here, but I’m doubting coaches lose any sleep over what lies ahead for them in the upcoming game against Ohio State or Michigan…Instead, they are more concerned over what kinds of things that will be written about them in the blogger world.

"It's a pretty good insurance policy," Klatt said Monday. You know what Click Klatt, you’re absolutely right…It’s a great insurance policy, so great in fact I was kicking around the idea of taking some "Blogger Insurance" out for myself in case some very, very, very bad blogger doesn’t like my commentary. Might I ask, who’s your agent? State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide or Progressive? Although, I must admit what a novelty idea buying up "potentially" derogatory websites since they’ve become vehicles for fans to voice their frustration with prominent coaches in recent years. Now, if this isn’t the new and upcoming way for university all around the country to show its coaches that they have their back by buying up domains, I don’t know what is honestly? Um Rick, perhaps for your next step in "Protecting the Coach" campaign you’ll look into buying up some of the local newspapers, radio stations, and local news stations, (just the sports department…I’m thinking about the costs here) as well. Yes, the University of Iowa will indeed go that extra mile…They’re like no other says Rick Klatt as he knows of no other school that has purchased potentially defaming Internet domains. Hmm, I wonder why that is, Rick? Any reason why you may think this is? I have a couple in mind!

"It's kind of a sad commentary that we needed to do this," Klatt said, "but it struck me last fall that this was probably the prudent thing to do on behalf of our staff, so I went ahead and purchased a handful of sites." You’re right Click Klatt, this is indeed very sad, the sad part is you wasted $674.82 for the rights to the seven Internet domains! Out of those seven domains, I hope you bought the rights to FireRickKlatt.com…Here’s another one of my hunches! Your theory, well, it blows goats. I have a domain I would like to get you free of charge…It’s Notonyourlife.com! Stop by and visit us if you honestly think your ingenious idea has any merit to it.

You think if Kentucky would’ve done this, Tubby Smith would still be there? HMMM…Perhaps, but we’ll never know!
