Unbelievable

How do the Phillies blow that game!?! I just got done watching the Phils lose a game in which they had an 8-2 lead going into the 8th inning. How does this happen.....IN A PENNANT RACE!!!!

Honestly, I can't even express myself right now because I'm in shock. I'm in shock that they somehow lost this game and an opportunity to gain a game on the Mets. I'm in shock that this is the second game on this road trip that they blew in this fashion (the other one was the series finale against the Marlins where they had a 5-0 lead). And I'm in complete and total shock that this is the 35th GAME THAT OUR BULLPEN HAS LOST.

This is an absolute embarrassment that this team - and its tremendous offense - has to put up with a bullpen that would get shelled pitching single-A ball. As Jayson Stark pointed out on Espn.com this week, the Phillies have 3 MVP-caliber players in our everyday line-up, yet we cannot make a serious push towards the postseason because our bullpen is so fuckin' deficient. Can anyone else in baseball say that they have 3 players (Rollins, Utley, and Howard) that are that good?

The answer is that no other team is close to having the type of talent we have on offense.....not even the Yankees (AL teams will always score more runs in a season because of the DH rule, the fact that only the Yankees and Tigers have scored more than the Phillies is a testament to how good this offense really is). If our organization were able to at least provide an adequate bullpen for Charlie Manuel to use, we would be 5 games ahead of the Mets right now instead of behind them.

Let me say it again.....WE HAVE LOST 35 GAMES THAT CAN DIRECTLY BE ACCOUNTED FOR BY OUR BULLPEN. Obviously, you expect to lose some games because of your bullpen. It's baseball and things like that happen all the time. But 35 games is absolutely ridiculous. And the worst part about it is that it would be higher if the Phils didn't also lead the league in come-from-behind wins......many of those wins coming from deficits that our bullpen created.

I can't even write anymore. I'm sick to my stomach......thank God Football starts this weekend.

As I wrote right before you posted, it is time to stick a form in the 2007 Phillies. Eagles season starts for real on Sunday!

While I'm not expecting them to make the playoffs, I'm saying stick a fork in them. The last time I said that, they made up 5 games in 5 days. And you know what? With three MVP caliber players, not one of them is going to win I don't think. That's a damn shame that the pitching staff is going to put their seasons to waste.

I cant believe that you sitting here talking about how great the Phillies lineup is and you have the know the Mets lineup is just as good, if not better at almost every position. The Mets actually have 4-MVP caliber players on the everyday team (Beltran, Wright, Reyes, and Delgado). Yes, Delgado is having a down year, but its the first one of his career (and directly attributed to being injured before and missing most of spring training. If you went position by position, you could basically say its a push...

1B - Delgado v Howard (Phils)
2B - Castillo v Utley (Phils)
3B - Wright v Núñez (Mets)
SS - Reyes v Rollins (tie)
LF - Alou v Burrell (tie)
CF - Beltran v Rowand (Mets)
RF - Green v Victorino (Phils)
C - Lo Duca v Ruiz (Mets)

And to say the Phillies have more talent than the Yankees (who I hate with an utter passion being a Mets fan) is absolutely ridiculous...American league or not, they have the most talented offensive roster in baseball. Dont forget that yours Phillies bullpin has been bad, but that Mets (and for that matter Yankees) starting pitching has been in flux or chaos (Yankees) the entire season. And I didnt even talk about the Red Sox who have Papi and Manny having down years for them, yet who have the best record in MLB. So, you are in the same position this year as last...ridiculously slow start and having to play catch up. Just look at it this way...at least the injuries have devastated my Mets so bad that youre within 5 games this year. Just remember how far out of it you were at this time last year...!

Look at the numbers and the way they play and tell me beltran is better than rowand...

Nunez only starts about once every 5 days...but wright is better than any phils 3b

Pat Burrell is better than moises alou (at least pat plays every day!)

and if the mets starting 8 is equal to the phils, why do the phils have such a better offense...hell, go compare road stats if it makes you feel better...

I just saw the highlights. I was waiting for Sportscenter to build me up and let me down, but they didn't, the Braves really did come back one one hit a few choppers and some pop ups. I loved every second of it!
